This
is one of the surviving sand stone temples built during Pallava period. This
temple is little off main road and can be accessed through a small lane and
near to the bus stand.
காஞ்சியிலுள்ள
பழமையான இக்கோயில் நகரின் முக்கிய சாலையான ஹாஸ்பிடல் ரோட்டில் உள்ளிடங்கி உள்ளது, வெளியில்
இருந்து பார்வைக்கு தெரியாதவாறு உள்ள இக்கோயிலும் காஞ்சியின் பொக்கிஷங்களில் ஒன்றாகும்.
மேலும், நந்திவர்ம பல்லவன் காலத்தியது. மிகவும் பழமையான இக்கோயில் இறைவனை மதங்க முனிவர்
வழிபட்டு ஐம்புலன்களையும் அடக்கியாளும் ஆற்றலைப் பெற்றார் என்று இத்தல வரலாற்றில் சொல்லப்படுகிறது.
இக்கோயிலும் முக்தீஸ்வரம் கோயிலும் பார்ப்பதற்கு ஒன்று போலவே இருக்கும், இதிலும் பல
அழகிய சிற்பங்கள் உள்ளன.

The temple is
facing west with Rishabam and balipeedam. The Temple consists of sanctum
sanctorum, and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is at an elevated level
with a flight of 9 steps. Moolavar in the sanctum is of Dharmalingam with 8 flat
surfaces and the Somaskandar panel is behind the Moolavar. The open artha mandapa /
mukha mandapa is supported by 4 lion pillars and 4 lion pilasters.
In the mukha mandapam apart from dwarapalakas, sculptures are Ravana Anugraha Murti, Ganga Visarjana, Gajasamhara, Jalandhara Samhara,
Urthuvathandava, are there. The outer north and east walls have the reliefs of
Chandesa anugraha murti, Durga, Yoga murti, Gangadhara, and Mata murti. An elaborate
panel of Lingothbavar is on the east side of the sanctum sanctorum wall. This
temple was constructed very similar to the Muktheeswarar Temple.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
As per the Historians, the temple was started during The Pallava King Rajasimha
period and Completed during the Nandivarman-II period.

The temple is about 200 meters from Kanchipuram bus stand and 2 KM from Kanchipuram Railway Station.
