Devotees regularly reciting the thiruppugazh in the cave jeeva Samadhi of Sri-la-Sri
Sachidananda Swamigal. The brief history of Sri-la-Sri Sachidananda Swamigal is as
follows..
Swamiji
as Ardhanari was born to Chidambaram and Lakshmi in the year 1870 at Bhavani in
Erode Dist. He married twice, wives and children passed away. Like this he faced lot of sad accidents in his life. He
travelled to places all over India. Even though he didn’t got the formal education,
learned to read and write, especially the Thiruppugazh composed by
Arunagirinathar. Finally he came to Ramana Ashram
at Tiruvannamalai and got spiritual enlightenment through Sri Ramana maharishi. Sri Seshadri
Swamigal directed him to go to Vallimalai. While he was in the Hill a small
girl sang ‘veera nokkiyam’ a verse from Thiruppugazh and Swamigal was very happy
to hear that and she disappeared after. Swamigal named her as “Pongi” amman also called as Sri Valli and constructed small shrine with her statue.
He almost spend 38 years in the hill and attained jeeva samadhi in the year
1950. He used to say ‘the truth you are
seeking is already within you”.
