HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that this Perumal temple and the Kailasanathar temple were built during the same period ie the 8th to 9th Century and reconstructed later. The Sri Devi Bhudevi samedha Veetrirundha Perumal is in a sitting posture on the back side of the temple. Since the present Moolavar is in standing posture, the name of the temple says Veetrirundha Perumal, this Sitting posture Perumal might be the moolavar once. Why this is kept outside is not known.  The Mandapam around the old temple was constructed with cement concrete in recent years.

The temple is under the control of Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam, Thiru kailaya Parambarai Meikanda Santhanam along with Kailasanathar and Avudayar Koil Sri Atmanathar Temple. .
