This Vediyappan temple at Mallikapuram, part of Chengam Nadukarkal group in Thiruvannamalai region has 5 Nadukarkal or the hero stones along with Terracotta / baked clay horses. A cow  & a dog are standing in front. 3 hero stones has the inscriptions of Pallava King MahendraVarman-I’s 39^th year rule and one number has the Chozha period inscription. It was told that, apart from regular poojas, annual function is being celebrated during Tamil Aadi month.

The first Hero stone is with out inscription. The hero holds a bow in the left and a dagger/ Katar sword in his right hand. The holy articles like kendi and simizh are are shown. An arrow is shown pierced through his chest. The hero died due to hitting of an arrow.

இடமிருந்து வலமாக முதலில் உள்ள நடுகல்லில் கல்வெட்டுக்கல் எதுவும் இல்லை. வீரனின் தலை இடப்புறம் திரும்பி இருக்க,  வில்லையும் குறுவாளையும் கைகளில் ஏந்தியபடி செதுக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மங்களச் சின்னங்களான கெண்டியும் சிமிழும் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. அம்பு ஒன்று நெஞ்சைத் துளைத்துக்கொண்டு முதுகு வழியாக வெளியேறி இருப்பதையும் காணும் போது இவ்வீரன் போரில் அம்பு தைத்து இறந்து இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று அனுமானிக்க முடிகின்றது. 

 

The Second hero stone is similar to the first one without any holy articles but with the inscriptions on the top. Hero holds a bow and a dagger / Katar. Mangala article mirror is shown on the side of right leg. As per the inscription this hero stone was erected during Pallava king Narasimhavarman's 30th year rule for a Hero called Vundan, belongs to Pakaimur and resides at Kumaramangalam,  who died in the process of recovering the cattle from Melkovalur nattu, Sathnur.

இரண்டாவது நடுகல்லில் வீரனின் தலை இடதுபுறம் திரும்பி இருக்க கைகளில்  வில்லும், குறுவாளும் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மங்களச் சின்னங்கள் எதுவும் காணக்கூடவில்லை. நடு கல்லின் மேற்ப்பாகத்தில் கல்வெட்டுக்கள் காண முடிகின்றது. கல்வெட்டு வாசகங்களின் படி பல்லவ மன்னன் இரண்டாம் நரசிம்ஹ வர்மனின் முப்பதாவது ஆட்சி ஆண்டில் பகைமூரைச் சார்ந்தவனும் குமாரமங்களத்தில் வாழ்பவனுமான வுண்டன் என்பவனுக்காக, மேற்கோவலூர் சாத்தனூரைச் சார்ந்தவர்களால் ஆநிரைகள் கவர்ந்து அவற்றை மீட்ட போது இறந்து பட்டதை குறிக்கின்றது.

கோவிசைய நரசிங்க விக்கிரம பருமற்கு யாண்டு முப்பதாவது மேற்கோவலூர் நாட்டுச் சாத்தனூர் ஆன் தொறுக் கொண்ட ஞான்று பகைமூர் சேவகர் குமாரமங்கல வுண்டன் தொறு இடுவித்து பட்டான்.

 

The third Hero stone is with Tamil inscription on the right. The hero is in standing position holding a bow and a Katar/ dagger. The arrows holder is shown on his hip. This Hero stone was erected during Paranthakan -I's 4th year rule for soldier of Vanakovaraiyan, by name KaLLan Thazhan belongs to Aanai mangalam, who died in the process of recovering the cattle at Mel Nattu Alavipadi. 

மூன்றாவது நடுகல்லும் ஒரு வீரக்கல் தமிழ் கல்வெட்டுக்களுடன் காணப்படுகின்றது. வீரனின் தலை இடதுபுறம் திரும்பி இருக்க கைகளில் வில்லும் குறுவாளும் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மங்களச் சின்னங்கள் எதுவும் காட்டப்படவில்லை. அம்புத்தூணி வீரனின் இடுப்பில் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது.  கல்வெட்டு வாசகத்தின் படி, பராந்தகச் சோழனின் 4வது ஆட்சி ஆண்டில் குரு நில மன்னன் வாணகோவரையனின், ஆனைமங்களத்தைச் சார்ந்த கள்ளன் தாழன் என்ற போர் வீரன், மேல் கோவலூர் நாட்டு அளவிப்பாடியில் ஆநிரைகளை  மீட்டபோது வீர மரணம் அடைந்ததை கூறுகின்றது.

The fourth Hero stone has the Tamil vattezhuthu inscription inscribed on the top. The hero is holding a katari on the right hand and a shield in the left hand. The holy/ mangal articles  Mirror, simizh and kendi are shown in the relief. The hero stone was erected  during 7th century Pallava king Mahendravarman's 39th year rule, Vanakovarayar's son in-law Potrekkayar's cattle shed was attacked and Nakkaiyaar's grand son and Vathaavan's son Nandhi died in the battle.

நான்காவது நடுகல்லும் ஒரு வீரக்கல்லே. வீரனின் தலை இடதுபுறம் திரும்பி இருக்க கைகளில் கேடயமும், குறுவாளும் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மங்களப் பொருள்களான கண்ணாடி, சிமிழ் மற்றும் கெண்டியும் கீழே காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. கைகளில் கேடயத்தையும் குறுவாளையும் காணும்போது இவ்வீரன் போரில் இறந்துபட்டு இருக்க வேண்டும் எனக் கருதலாம். கல்வெட்டும் அதையே உறுதி செய்கின்றது. 7ம் நூற்றாண்டு, பல்லவ மன்னன் மகேந்திர வர்மனின் 39வது ஆட்சி ஆண்டில், வாணகோவரையர் மருமக்கள் பொற்றக்கயாரின் ஊர் மந்தையைத் தாக்கியபோது, ணாக்கையாரின் பேரனும் வத்தாவனின் மகனுமான நந்தி வீரமரணம் அடைந்ததைக் கூறுகின்றது.

கோவிசைய மசீந்திரபருமற்கு முப்பதொன்பதாவது வாணகோ அரைசரு மருமக்கள் பொற்றேக்கையார் சருக்கிருந்த ஊர் போந்தை மேற் சக்கரவாரு படை வந்த ஞான்று ணாக்கையார் இளமகன் வத்தாவன் மகன் நந்(தி எறி)ந்து பட்டான் கல்.

The fifth Hero stone also has the Tamil vattezhuthu inscription inscribed on the top. While the head looking at left side, the hero holds a bow and a katar/ dagger in his hands. There is no mangala articles.This hero stone was erected during 7th century by Pallava King Narasimhavarman - I's 11th year rule for Unanga Kothaiyaar's Soldier Aaroka vankar's son Kanimaran died in the process of recovering the cattle from Mel Kovalur Nadu Kadipakaiyar.

ஐந்தாவது வீரக்கல்லின் மேற்பகுதியில் தமிழ் வட்டெழுத்துக்கள் காணப்படுகின்றது. வீரனின் தலை இடதுபுறம் திரும்பி இருக்க கைகளில் வில்லும், குறுவாளும் காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது. மங்களச் சின்னங்கள் எதுவும் காட்டப்படவில்லை. கல்வெட்டு வாசகங்களின் படி 7ம் நூற்றாண்டு, பல்லவ மன்னன் முதலாம் நரசிம்ம வர்மனின் 11ம் ஆட்சி ஆண்டில், மேல்பாடி கோவலூர் நாட்டைச்சார்ந்த அளவிற்பாடி கடிபகயார் ஆநிரைகளைக் கவர்ந்த போது அவற்றை மீட்ட உணங்கனாரின் மகன் கோத்தரையார் சேவகன் ஆரோகவண்கரின் மக்கள் கணிமாதன் வீர மரணம் அடைந்ததை குறிக்கின்றது.

கோவிசைய நரைசிங்க பருமற்கு பதினொன்றாவது மேற்கோவலூர் நாட்டுஅளஇற்பாடி கடிபகையார் தொரு கொண்ட (ஞா)ன்று சென்று தொறு இடுவித்து பட்டாரு உணங்கயார் மகனார் கோத்தையார் சேவகன் ஆரோகவண்கர் மக்கள் கணிமாதனார் கல்.
