The 158th UZHAVARAM of SEVAS was held at Sri Nageswara Swamy Temple, Kundrathur on 20th September 2015. I also participated in the Uzhavaram - Cleaning of temple, removing cobwebs and cleaning of Temple tank – Surya Pushkarani. Since I reached Kundrathur early around 07.30 Hrs than the scheduled time of 08.30 Hrs, had the darshan of Sri Valli Devasena Sametha Subrmania Swamy on the hill and Sri Kanthazheeswarar and Sri Nagecharar. The details of the temples are given below.

The temple is on a small hill with 75 stone steps. Facility is available to drive up to hill top. Vazhum Chuzhi Vinayagar sannadhi is on the right side of the steps. There is no murtis in the ardha mandapam.
Sannadhi for Vinayagar and a Shiva Lingam on the right side of the maha mandapam. In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Nagars, Dakshinamurthy, Durgai amman, Vilva Vinayagar.
The entrance to the sanctum sanctorum is small, such that we may be able to have a dharshan of either Sri Murugan with Valli or Sri Murugan with Deivanai.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the temple was built during Kulothunga Chozha-II period.
Arunagirinathar has sung hymns on Murugan of this hill temple. There is a 16 pillar Mandapam and marriages are done at this temple. The inscriptions are recorded in ARE 1909 no 255-260, 1929- 30 No 177-231.
Madurai Nayaka king Chokkanathan has done thirupani at this temple and installed some sculptures also on 12.07.1726. The inscription on the path to the temple records that he had dug a well for the public common use.
LEGENDS
By looking at the beauty of this place Sri Murugan sat here for a while while proceeding to Thiruthani.
Devotees pray to Kundrathur Murugan for child boon. After delivery, they used to tie a cradle on the peepal tree.

The view of the 16 pillar mandapam from back side and the Rajagopuram belongs to Thiruvooraga Perumal Temple.
