The visit
to this Sri Chelliamman Temple at Siruvapuri was a part of “Gajaprishta Vimana
Temples visit – Part-2 on 07th May 2023. This
place Siruvapuri is now called as Chinnambedu, on the south side of River
Arani.

of the salient features of this temple are….
This
Saptamatrikas temple is at the entrance of the Village on the banks of a Lotus
tank. The temple is facing North with an entrance on the east side. Balipeedam,
trishul and Simha Vahana is on the north side. Stucco images of spatamatrikas along
with Shiva as Yogeswara & Ganesha, Mahishasuramardini and Chelli Amman on
Lion are on the north side wall.
In
Sanctum saptamatrikas and Chamundi is at the centre, worshipped as Chelliamman.
ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The total
temple was built with bricks and no architectural style was followed. An eka
tala salakara vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It
is believed that the temple belongs to 10th to 11th
century earlier Chozha Period. There is no inscriptional evidence to prove the
same.
Maha Kumbhabhishakam was conducted 04th August 2006, and 07th August 2019.
LEGENDS
It
is believed that This Chelli Amman with saptamatrikas is the Guarding deity /
Grama thevadhai of this Village from Evil sprits, deceases entering in to the
Village.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart
from oru kala poojas, annual festival will be celebrated in the month of
Chithirai.

Since
oru kala pooja is conducted opening and closing time are unpredictable.

Buses are available from Periyapalayam, Ponneri, Redhills etc.
The
place Siruvapuri is about 3.0 KM from Siruvapuri Bus stand on Chennai –
Kolkatta national High way. 13 KM from Ponneri railway Station, 18.2 KM from
Redhills, 26 KM from Madhavaram Bus Terminus and 35 KM from Koyambedu bus
terminus and Chennai Central Station.
Nearest
Railway station is Ponneri.
