The Visit to this Sri Agastheeswarar Temple was a
part of Gajaprishta Vimana Temple of Thondai mandalam on 16th May
2023. The total temple was built in a large area and parivara sannidhis are
built with enough space.

The temple is facing east with entrance Gate.
Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the temple. In Koshtam Vinayagar,
Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.
In praharam, Ambal, Suriyan, Vinayagar, Sri Valli
Devasena Subramaniyar, Navagrahas and Bairavar. Ambal Akilandeswari is in a
separate Temple like sannidhi with 3 Tier salakara vimanam. Ambal is facing
South in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists
of sanctum Sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The total temple from
adhisthanam to Sigaram was built with bricks. A Metacolour sheet open mukha
mandapam is in front of the Temple. The
sanctum sanctorum is in square shape and the 3 tala Vimanam is of Gajaprishta
style. The adhisthanam is with jagathi, vrutha kumudam
and Pattigai. The Bhitti starts with vedika. The Pilasters are of brahma kantha
pilasters with kalasam, kudam, mandi,
palakai, and vettu pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi, kapotam with nasi
kudus.

AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is claimed that this temple was built in bricks during Pallava / Chozha period and there is evidence available to prove the same.
Probably the present structure might have been built during 18th
to 19th Century.
LEGENDS
It is believed that the Shiva Linga was installed
and worshipped by the Sage Agasthiyar. Hence Shiva of this temple is called as
Agastheeswarar.

Apart from regular oru kala pooja, special poojas
are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, Tamil New year day, Vianayagar
Chathurti etc,.

10.00 hrs.

REACH
The temple is about 7 KM from red Hills, 11 KM from
Puzhal, 24 KM from Koyambedu and 24 KM from Chennai central.
Nearest railway Station is Koyambedu.
