2017.
This 16th century CE Raghunatha
temple is one of the living temples in Hampi ruins on a medium sized hill
called Malayavanta Parvatha on the main road between Hospet and Hampli and 2 Km
from Kamalapura. This is one of the spatha ( seven ) hills of this region. This
hill has globe/ round shaped boulders and natural caves. It is believed that
lord Rama with Lakshmana was wandering in this place called kiskindha
during their exile or vanavasa in search of Sita. Sri Rama performed obsequies
on this hill to his father Dhasaratha by offering pindas. These pindas latter
changed in to boulders. They stayed here for about 3 months during the rainy
season. There are two natural water storage called Rama Done and
Lakshmana Done on this hill. This is the place where Hanuman met Sri Rama.
This Raghunathaswamy Temple is facing east with a
DeepaSthamba and Garuda’s sannadhi are immediately after the east side 3 tier
Rajagopuram. There is a 5 tier Rajagopuram on the south side also. The is a
cave temple carved during Viajayanagara Period.
The reliefs of Sri Rama, Lakshmana with Sita and
Hanuman are in the sanctum. The temple consists a sanctum, the cave,
arthamandapa, Maha mandapa and a muka mandapa. The sanctum Vimanam was built
with bricks over the sanctum boulder or the rock.
There is a big Naathanamandapa is on the left and
