The
visit to this Sri Kalatheeswarar Temple at Ayyampettai, near Walajabad was a
part of the “Maha Shivaratri 2025 Temples Visit”, on 26th February 2025,
organized by Mr. Babu Mano, and
Mr. Suresh Priyan.
This temple does not have a formal structure and the Shiva Linga is under a
peepal tree.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
This is not a built temple. A Shiva Lingam on a
round avudaiyar is believed to be more than 1000 years old and kept under a peepal
tree. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the Shiva Lingam. Nagars are also
installed on the same platform.
Sri Sengazhuneer Vinayagar temple is on the south
side of Sri Kalatheeswarar. Navagraha is in front of Vinayagar temple.
LEGENDS
It is believed that Shiva of this temple was
worshipped by Rahu and Ketu and considered, equivalent to Kalahasti
Kalatheeswarar. Hence this is a parihara sthalam for Rahu and Ketu.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas special poojas are
conducted on pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, etc.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since the Shiva Lingam is installed under a peepal
tree and open to the sky, darshan can be done at any time.

HOW TO REACH
This temple is about 150 meters off from the
Kanchipuram to Walajabad / Chengalpattu State Highway.
The temple at village Ayyampettai is on the South side
of Chengalpattu to Kanchipuram State Highway, 7 km from Walajabad bus stand, and
10 km from Kanchipuram.
The nearest Railway Station is Walajabad.
