The
visit to this Sri Maha Anantha Ruthreswarar Temple, in Pillaiyarpalayam, was a
part of the “Maha Shivaratri 2025 Temples Visit”, on 26th February 2025,
organized by Mr. Babu Mano, and
Mr. Suresh Priyan.
This Temple is in Pillaiyarpalayam, on the CSM Street. It is not known what is
that CSM stands for. Some say that CSM is the short form of “Conjevaram”.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram on
the south side. An entrance arch with stucco images of Shiva’s family at
Kailayam is after the Rajagopuram. A stucco image of Meenakshi Sundareswarar
Kalyanam is on the mandapam. Balipeedam and Rishabam are on the east side. The entrance to the ardha mandapam is from the south side with a small mandapam.
Moolavar is on a round avudayar. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha
Vishnu, Brahma, and Durgai.
In praharam Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena
Subramaniar, Bairavar, Saniswarar, Suryan, a Shiva Lingam with Nagaras under
Sthala Vruksham, and Chandikeswarar.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and ardha
mandapam. The whole temple was constructed with bricks and cement. The sanctum
sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, three patta kumudam, and
pattikai.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the original temple belongs to the Pallava period and the same was reconstructed in recent years.
Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted after 70 years on 23rd April 2004, after completing the renovation works at a cost of Rs 5 Lakhs.
LEGENDS
It is believed that 1000 Ruthreswaras worshipped
Shiva at this temple. Hence Shiva is called Maha Anantha Ruthreswarar.

Apart from oru kala poojas, special poojas are
conducted on Maha Shivaratri days.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since oru kala pooja is conducted in the morning
hours, the opening and closing times are unpredictable.
