The
visit to this Sri Kasibeswarar Temple, on the Vegavadhi River Road, in Chinna
Kanchipuram was a part of the “Maha Shivaratri 2025 Temples Visit”, on 26th
February 2025, organized by Mr. Babu Mano, and
Mr. Suresh Priyan.
This temple is on the right side of the Pachiappa’s Ladies College, abutting
the compound wall.
Moolavar : Sri Kasibeswarar Temple
Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east. Balipeedam and Rishabam are
in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is on a square avudaiyar.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of a sanctum sanctorum with a
mukha mandapam. The whole temple was constructed with bricks and cement
concrete. There are no images in the koshtams. The Vimanam above the sanctum
sanctorum is of eka tala and sigaram is of vesara style.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was said that the Shiva Lingam belongs to the 10th
to 11th Century and the present structure belongs to the 21st Century. The
temple was built by Sri Agasthiya Krubha Trust and Maha kumbhabhishekam was
conducted on 27th August 2015.
LEGENDS
It is believed that Kashiba Muni also known as
Kashyapa, is considered the father of Devas, Asuras, Nagas, and Human
beings. The Kashyapa worshipped Shiva at this temple. Hence Shiva is called Kashibeswarar.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from oru kala pooja special poojas are
conducted on pradosham and Maha Shivaratri.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since oru kala pooja is conducted the opening and
closing times are unpredictable. But on Maha Shivaratri days, the temple will
be kept open during day time.

HOW TO REACH
This
temple is at the Junction of Kannappan Street and Vegavadhi River Road, and on
the right side of the Pachiappa’s Ladies College, abutting the compound wall,
in Chinna Kanchipuram.
The temple is 300 meters from the Chengalpattu
to Kanchipuram State Highway, 2.4 km from Kanchipuram Bus Stand, and 4.5 km
from Kanchipuram Railway station.

Sri ARRangarai Amman temple is on the right side of Sri Kasibeswarar Temple. In the sanctum, Amman is in a sitting posture. Amman is made of stucco.
