The
visit to this Sri Kalatheeswarar Temple at Pillaiyarpalayam, was a part of the “Maha
Shivaratri 2025 Temples Visit”, on 26th February 2025, organized by Mr. Babu Mano, and
Mr. Suresh Priyan.
This Kalatheeswarar temple is in front of Sri Utruketta Muktheeswarar Temple on
Thirumetrali Street. The temple will not be visible from the side, but there
is a lane with a signboard that leads to the temple.
Moolavar: Sri Kalatheeswarar Temple
Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east, in between residences. A
small lane with a signboard leads to the temple. Balipeedam and Rishabam are
in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar in the sanctum sanctorum is on a
round avudayar. There are koshta murtis.
Vinayagar, a Dhara Lingam, and a small Rishabam are
right side of the entrance to the temple under a bilva tree.
ARCHITECTURE
The whole temple was constructed with bricks and
cement concrete. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and an ardha mandapam.
There is no vimanam over the sanctum sanctorum.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the original temple belongs to the Pallava period. The present structure may have been constructed in recent
years.
LEGENDS
It is believed that Shiva is equal power similar to
Kalahastheeswarar of Sri Kalahasti. Hence this is a paraha sthalam for Rahu and
ketu.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular oru kala pooja, special poojas
are conducted on Maha Shivaratri days.
TEMPLE TIMINGS
Since oru kala pooja is conducted, opening and
closing times are unpredictable.

HOW TO REACH
This Kalatheeswarar, on the Thirumetrali Street, in
front of Sri Utruketta Muktheeswarar Temple.
The temple is about 2 km from the bus stand. The
temple is about 3 km from Kanchipuram Railway Station, 33 km from Arakkonam
Junction, and 74 km from Chennai.
The nearest Railway station is Kanchipuram, and the
Junction is Arakkonam. The temple can also be reached by Auto/car.
