22nd March 2016.
The 10-day Mylapore Sri Kapaleeswarar temple
Brahmotsavam or Panguni Peru Vizha used to be held during Tamil Panguni
month ( March – April ). This year the festival started on 13th March
2016 and ends on 24th March 2016. During this festival, Utsavars used to circumambulate all 4 mada streets and bless the devotees. Yesterday
on the ninth day called Arupathu moovar Vizha. Urchavar Sri
Periyanayaki samedha Sri Kapaleeswarar in chariot came around the mada streets.
Moovar utsava murtis in individual pallakku/palanquins and other Nayanmars were
kept in a group facing Lord Shiva and carried around the mada streets.
It was an enjoyable sight and I went around all four Mada streets swimming in the crowd. This is the first time I am
visiting Mylapore Panguni Peruvizha after I shifted to Chennai from
Tuticorin. Free prasadam, food in stalls, sweets, Chocolates, cucumber,
buttermilk, and water are served by the donors to the devotees. This added more
confusion to the crowd. The crowds are not regulated properly. Devotees are
not keeping one direction ie left, walking in a crisscross manner.
