LEGENDS
As per the legend, Janamejayan was the son of Pareetchithu, who ruled the Gurskehtra for 24 years. Due to the curse of a Brahmin, he was killed by the bite of Nagarajan Dakshan of Dakshaseelam. Angered Janamejayan, took a vow/oath to kill Nagarajan Dakshan within a week. So he conducted a Sarbamedha yagna. The purpose is that all the Nagas will fall into the Gundam and die.  All the Nagas died except Karkodakan and Nagarajan Dakshan. Nagarajan Dakshan wound on the wheels of Surya and escaped. Karkodakan went and hid behind Lord Shiva, who gave asylum. Karkodakan promised that he would not bite anybody in this place, and even if he bit people would not die due to poison. To get rid of this sin, Janamejayan installed this Shiva Lingam and worshipped.

Since Janamejayar worshipped Lord Shiva of this temple to get relieved from the sin caused by the killing of Nagars, this temple is a Rahu, Ketu, Sarpa doshas, Naga dosham, and Pitru dosha parihara sthalam.

As per hearsay, Lord Shiva was called Harihara Eswarar, and Janamejayar worshipped both Lord Shiva and Parvati with equal importance.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Based on the architecture of this temple and compared to the Janamejaya Eswarar temple at Panambakkam, it is believed that the temple might have been constructed during the same period or a little later, i.e., 11th to 12th Century. But there is no evidence in the form of records or inscriptions found in the temple. As per hearsay, Lord Shiva was called Harihara Eswarar, Sri Agastheeswarar, Sri Valeeswarar, etc.

It was said that Adhi Kailasanathar banam and Rishabam were found in the temple tank. The same was buried under a tree. This was lifted back, and a new avudayar was made. This Adhi Kailasanathar was installed in a shed on 04th October 2020. This Adhi Kailasanathar Temple existed as the Soleeswarar temple in the 1926 temple census records. The Durga, Sastha, and Balasubramaniar received from a villager are used as koshta murtis.

Further, Maha Vishnu Abhayaprada Varadharaja Perumal with his consorts and Garudan was found abandoned in the village. The same was installed in a small shrine in front of the Adhi Kailasanathar Sannidhi. Ambal Thiripura Sundari was installed on 11th December 2020. Steps were taken to establish the Navagraha sannidhi on 27th December 2020, and the same was installed on Shani Pradosam Day. Kala Bairavar was installed on 29th May 2021.

After making Pradosha murtis, Natarajar was made with the metals collected from the Villagers on 27th October 2019.

The temple is under the control of the Tamil Nadu HR & CE Department’s oru kala pooja scheme. Considering the present condition of the temple, efforts are ON to reconstruct the sanctum sanctorum outer wall, Stucco vimanam, and Rishaba mandapam. The temple is under palalayam from 27th March 2022, and formal work was started with pooja and homam. Thanks to Mr. Saikumar for taking steps for the above renovations.
