Shri Mahaan Satguru Andhu Swamy Madam / ஸ்ரீ மகான் சத்குரு அந்துசுவாமிகள் மடாலயம் & Sri Prasanna Vinayagar Temple, Perambur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Shri Mahaan Satguru Andhu Swamy Madam & Sri Prasanna Vinayagar Temple at Perambur was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman and Siddhar Jeeva Samadhi Temples Visit” – in Aminjikarai and Perambur on 09th October 2022. Even though this is a Mahaan Satguru Andhu Swamy’s madam, called in the name of Prasanna Vinayagar Temple..

Some of the Salient features of this temple are...
The Temple or Jeeva samadhi Temple is facing east. A Shiva Lingam installed on the Jeeva Samadhi, is on the left side after the entrance. A Bronze idol of Siddhar Andhu Swamigal is kept on the head side in a small sannidhi like structure. The Jeeva Samadhi is facing north. 

In praharam Durgai Amman, Shirdi Saibaba, Vallalar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Venkatesa Perumal, Prasanna Vinayagar, Bhuvaneswari Amman  and Navagrahas.


ARCHITECTURE
Stucco image of Vinayagar is on the top of the entrance to signify this temple is a Prasanna Vinayagar Temple. Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Sri Venkatesa Perumal with Sridevi and Bhudevi and Sri Prasanna Vinayagar sannidhis are built in a straight line facing east. Eka thala vesara Vimanas are on the three sanctums.


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This Jeeva Samadhi with Prasanna Vinayagar Sannidhi are established by Former Honorary Magistrate Thavathiru Desikanandha Swamigal with fund received from many donors.

The Temple was functioning as a madam during Andhu Swamigal’s period.

He was born to Hindu father and mother after they prayed in Anthoniyar Church of Perambur. Since Swamigal was born after praying at Anthoniyar Church, named as Anthony.  During young age itself he used to go to school with vibhuti on his forehead. People used to surprise to a boy with Christian Name and wearing Hindu religion symbol. He was not interested in the material life. While his two younger brothers are studying well, he was in search of Gnanam. Then he was sent Singapore ( Sri Lanka..?) to work in Tea plantation. He was sent back to India after he falls in to sick. After returning to India there was a change in his life style and behaved like Gnanpithu which was mistakenly understood as lunatic by others. The Former Honorary Magistrate Thavathiru Desikanandha Swamigal ( latter he had become the disciple of Andhu Swamigal ), identified him correctly and made Swamigal to stay in the Prasanna Vinayagar Temple it self. Swamigal attained Jeeva Samadhi in 1931 around 4 o’ clock. Swamigal’s Pavala Vizha  ( 75 years ) was celebrated in 2006.  It is told that Swamigal had done many miracles during his life time and even after attaining jeeva Samadhi also.  




LEGENDS
Andhu Swamigal had done lot of miracles in his life and also doing even after his Jeeva Samadhi.

Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Swamigal’s Guru Poojas, Pournami & Amavasya days, Vaikunta ekadasi, Vinayagar Chaturthi etc,.

The temple will be kept opened for darshan between 06.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

Sri Vara Siddhi Vinayagar Temple/ ஸ்ரீ வரசித்தி வினாயகர் கோயில், Ekambareswarar Temple, Aminjikarai, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this more than 150 Years old Vara Siddhi Vinayagar Temple at Aminjikarai was a part of “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman and Siddhar Jeeva Samadhi Temples Visit” – in Aminjikarai and Perambur on 09th October 2022. This temple was constructed just opposite to Sri Ekambareswarar Temple.


Moolavar : Sri Vara Siddhi Vinayagar

Some of the salient features of this temple are....
The temple is facing west  and just opposite to Sri Ekambareswarar Temple.  The Vinayagar is in sitting posture. The upper hands are holding pasa Angusam. Lower hands are holding broken tusk and a fruit.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple was reconstructed completely with bricks. The Temple consists of a Sanctum and Sanctorum with a mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy and 3 patta Kumudam. A three tier stucco nagara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of Vinayagar’s various forms are on the Vimana tala koshtas and greeva Kostas. 
 

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The street itself named after this Vinayagar as VV Kovil Street ( வரசித்தி விநாயகர் கோவில் தெரு ). The temple exists more than 350 years, may be built along with, Sri Ekambareswarar Temple, by Sengalvarayan Mudaliar. Latter  period inscription in the old mandapam records that this temple was built ( re-built…? ) by K. Sambasiva Pillai in the year 1923. Latter in 2001, the present mandapam and Vimanam was built.

LEGENDS
Even though many leelas, miracles  are done by Vinayagar at various places and various times, this temple is not associated with any particular legend.  It is believed that Sri Vinayagar will bless his devotees with boons, who prays with devotion. Hence Vinayagar is called as Vara Siddhi Vinayagar.  

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on monthly sankatahara Chathurti and Vinayagar Chathurti.

Nattu Selva Vinayagar Temple/ ஸ்ரீ நாட்டு செல்வ விநாயகர் கோயில், Mint Street, Park Town, Chennai Tamil Nadu.

This series of posts consists of temples  contains 18th to 20th Century inscription recorded in “Chennai Ma Nagara Kalvettukkal -  சென்னை மாநகர கல்வெட்டுக்கள்”, Published by Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department..

Even-though, many Vinayagar Temples were built  throughout Chennai, but few has more than hundred years of history and this Nattu Selva Vinayagar Temple on Mint Street in Park Town area is very unique in all respects.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing west, Stucco images of Parvati, Shiva, Vinayagar, Murugan, Narasimhar, Kali, Hanuman are on the west and north side top. Moolavar Vinayagar is in the sanctum Sanctorum. Balipeedam and Moonjuru are in front of the sanctum Sanctorum and Vinayagar and Murugan are at the entrance.

In praharam Sundareswarar with Meenakshi, Natarajar, Sri Valli Devasena Murugan, Padavattamman  / Renuka Devi with Dwarapalakas, 7 Veeras bas reliefs panel, Anjaneyar, Durgai, Navagrahas and Narasimha Murthy.


ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of a sanctum Sanctorum and other sannidhis are around the sanctum sanctorum. The total temple was constructed with Bricks, and Vimanam is not Visible since the ceiling of the mandapam is constructed from prastaram level.


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The following two inscriptions are recorded and Published in Chennai Ma Nagara Kalvettukal – சென்னை மாநகர கல்வெட்டுக்கள்.

A portion of 1878(?), year inscription, which are found on the floor slab of the temple. ( The temple was completely renovated and floor was also replaced. The Inscription stones are missing now ). I doubt that this fragment stone may belongs to some other temple also.

The incomplete inscription records the Kaattivur Vaidhiyar’s son Kumaraya Mestri and Arunachaleswarar. Whether Arunachaleswarar  mentioned in this inscription was about the Arunachaleswarar Shiva Temple, on the same street or some other temple is not known.

Another inscription is also a fragment inscription belongs to 19th Century. This inscription records that the Thirukandalam (near Peiya Palayam, One of the Thondai mandala Paadal Petra Sthalam ) Periya Muthu Asari’s Son Kizha Asari attained the holy feet of Shiva ( death of Kizha Asari ). In this inscription also mentions the Annamalaiyar ( Arunachaleswarar ). Is that inscription just mentions the death of Kizha Asari…?. Hope it may not be...

தங்கசாலைத் தெருவில் 2929-ஆம் எண், நாட்டு செல்வ விநாயகர் கோயிலில் உட்பக்கம் தெற்கில் தரை மேல் உள்ளது. திருக்கண்டலம் பெரியமுத்து ஆசாரி மகன் கிழஆசாரி இறந்ததை இக்கல்வெட்டு குறிக்கின்றது. The original inscription reads as...

First one seems to be giving Navakandam..Whether this inscription is associated with this sculptures..?  

LEGENDS
The temple is believed to be constructed, when this place was a Village, or might have connection with “Nattu..”. What it means is not known.

Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Vinayagar Chathurthi, Sankatahara Chaturthi  Fridays etc.

Shri Senkazhuneer Vinayagar Temple / Sri Sengazhuneer Vinayagar / ஸ்ரீ செங்கழுநீர் விநாயகர் கோயில், and Kolur Amman Temple, Mint Street, Park Town Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple facing east with a 5 Tier Rajagopuram is at the entrance. Balipeedam, Vahana Moonjuru are in front of the shrine. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

In Praharam Kolur Amman, Utsava Murthis, Ayyappan, Valli Devasena Subramaniar and Vallalar. Stucco images of Vinayagar on around the walls of the praharam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The 1846 CE, inscription is recorded in the Chennai Ma Nagara kalvettukkal – சென்னை மாநகர கல்வெட்டுக்கள்… Published by Tamil Nadu Archaeological Department. This inscription is on a stone slab, erected at the entrance of Kolur Amman Temple, facing north. The inscription records that Chennai Peddu Naicken Pet, Ekambaranathar street, Sivan padavar Cheyal muni kothra, gave a gift of House plots, Shops to this Sengazhuneer Vinayagar Temple.

தங்கசாலைத் தெருவில் உள்ள செங்கழுநீர் விநாயகர் கோயிலில் சன்னதியின் தெற்குச் சுவரில் [ உட்பக்கம் ] உள்ளது.

சென்னை பெத்துநாயக்கன்பேட்டை ஏகாம்பரதாதர் சாலையில் வசிக்கும் சிவன் படவர் செயல் .மாமுனி கோத்திர வம்சத்தார் செங்கழுநீர் விநாயகர் கோயில், வீடுமனை, கடைகள் ஆகிய தர்மங்கள் செய்தமை இக்கல்வெட்டு குறிக்கிறது. The original inscription reads as....

LEGENDS
Vinayagar is being called in different names, and this is one of the name, as Sengazhuneer Vinayagar. There are few temples in Tamil Nadu dedicated to Sengazhuneer Vinayagar.  For one of the temple, Sivagnana Munivar has sung  hymns “Sengazhuneer Pillai Tamil”, in praise of Vinayagar.  This is the first Pillai Tamil composed on Vinayagar. Usually a Pillai Tamil will narrates to stages of a God/ Deity from 3rd months old Child. One of the hymn from “Kappu paruvam” is as given below. 

விறல்பி றங்குக டாமிசை யெதிரு மந்தக னார்தமை
        மெலிவு கொண்டுயிர் வீடவு..தைந்தபொற றாட்டுணை
வினையி னென் றலை மேலருள் செயவி ரங்குயு மோர்மரு
        வியசி தம்பர ரூபனை யன்புறப் போற்றுது
மறலொ ழுங்குத னாதிட முழுவ துஞ்செறி நீளகரை
        யகலவி சும்பென நீடுத ரங்கமிக் கார்த்தெறி

ளுதவு மெம்பெரு மானையெவ்வுயிர்க ளுங்கொடு மாம..
        மொருவி யன்புரு வாகிய டங்கவைத் தாட்கொளு
 முகள பங்கய பாதனை யுலக மெங்கணு மாயெனை
        யுடைய செங்கழு நீர்மத தந்தியைக் காக்கவே

Sengazhuneer is a kind of flower like lotus being offered to God / deities. There are some inscriptions in Shiva Temples, records the creation of Nandhavanam and Sengazhuneer flower farm to be offered to the presiding Deity of this temple.
