Sridevi Bhudevi Sametha Veetrirundha Sivayoga Narayana Perumal Temple / Shri Perumal Temple / ஸ்ரீ பெருமாள் கோவில், / வடநகர் / Vadanagar, Avudayarkoil, Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to Sri Veetrirundha Sivayoga Narayana Perumal Temple at Vada Nagar near Avudaiyarkoil was a part of Shiva, Vishnu Temples of Pudukkottai  and Sivagangai Districts Visit on 23rd & 24th September 2023. This Maha Vishnu temple is about about 100 meters from Sri Adi Kailasanathar Temple, Vadanagar.

Some of the salient features of this Temple are...
The Temple is facing east with a temple tank on the back side. Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Garudan are in front of the temple. Stucco image of Narayana Perumal with sridevi and Bhudevi is on the top of the mukha mandapam. Dwarapalakas are at the entrance sanctum sanctorum ardha mandapam.  Moolavar Sri Siva Yoga Veetrirundha Narayana Perumal is in standing posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi. Utsava murtis are in front of Moolavar. No images found in the koshtams.

On the back side sannidhis for Chakrathalwar & Yoga Narasimhar, Andal and Sridevi Bhudevi samedha Sri Narayana Perumal, in sitting posture. Narayana Perumal is with 4 hands, While upper hands are holding shankha and chakra, the lower right hand is in abhaya hastam and left hand is in akvana hastam ( calling the devotee towards him to bless ). Since the name of the temple indicates as Veetrirundha Narayana Perumal, these idols might have been once moolavar of this temple.

Anjaneyar is on the right side immediately after the entrance to the temple in the newly constructed mandapam.  


ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with three patta kumudam and pattikai. The Bhitti starts with vedika. Vishnu Kantha pilasters with square base, naga bandham, kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi, palakai and pushpa pothyal. The Prastaram consists of  lotus petals valapi, kapotam. A 2 tier Vimanam is on the Bhumi desam. Maha Vishnu’s various avatars are in the tala and greeva kostams.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that this Perumal temple and the Kailasanathar temple are built during same period ie 8th to 9th Century and reconstructed latter. The Sri Devi Bhudevi sametha Veetrirundha Perumal is in sitting posture is on the back Side of the temple. Since the present Moolavar is standing posture, the name of the temple says as Veetrirundha Perumal, this Sitting posture Perumal might be the moolavar once. Why this is kept out side is not known.  The Mandapam around the old temple was constructed with cement concrete during recent years.

The temple is under the control of Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam, Thiru kailaya Parambarai Meikanda Santhanam along with Kailasanathar and Avudayar Koil Sri Atmanathar Temple. .

Apart from Regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Vaikunta Ekadasi, Purattasi Saturdays, all days in Margazhi, Krishna jayanthi, etc,.

This Sri Veetrirundha Perumal Temple at Vada Nagar is a part of Avudayarkoil, which is about 1 KM from Sri Aathmanatha Swamy Temple at Avudaiyarkoil, 15 KM from Aranthangi, 40 KM from Karaikudi.

Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple / ஆதிகேசவ பெருமாள் கோவில், Paramandur, Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple at Paramandur near Avudayarkoil was a part of Shiva, Vishnu Temples of Pudukkottai  and Sivagangai Districts Visit on 23rd & 24th September 2023.

Since Sri Adikesava Perumal was worshipped by Veda Vyasa’s father Parasara Maharishi, this place was also called as “Parasara Kshetram”.

Some of the salient features of this Temple are...
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram. Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Garudan are in front of the temple. Parasarar and Nagar sannidhis are on the left side of the Dwajasthambam.  Vishwaksena, Anjaneyar Pillar relief ( Anjaneyar will look Young and old, when viewed from both sides ) are in the mukha mandapam. In maha mandapam, Ramanujar, Nammalwar, Manavala mamuni, Sridevi Bhudevi sametha Varadharaja Perumal and Lakshmi Narayanan. Jayan & Vijayan, the dwarapalakas are at the entrance of ardha mandapam.

Moolavar Sri Adikesava Perumal is with Sridevi and Bhudevi in standing posture. Moolavar is with 4 hands, holding sankha & chakra in the upper hands and lower right hand is in Abhaya hastam and left hand is in kadi hastam. Moolavar is made of stucco, hence abhishekam is not carried out and only thaila kappu will be done. Utsava Murtis are in front of Moolavar.

Thayar Parimalavalli is in a separate temple facing east on the right side of Moolavar Temple. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, and ardha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with three patta kumudam. The Pilasters are of Brahma kantha Pilasters with  kalasa, kudam, mandi, palakai and vettu pothyal. The prastaram consists of Valapi with lotus petals, Kapotam and Viyyala vari. An eka tala Dravida Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a maha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a kapoda bandha adhistanam with vrutha kumudam and kapotam. The Koshtas are sala style padra kostas and are without images. Sthamba panjaras are in antarala portion. The Bhitti starts above Vedika. The pilasters are with square base & Naga bandham, Vishnu kantha body, malai thongal, kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi, palakai, veera kandam and pushpa pothyal. The Prastaram consists of lotus petals valapi, kapotam with floral design nasi kudus & keerthi mukhas, Kodi palai, maiyya karukku. Yazhi vari is above the kapotam. Makara thundam is shown on the corners. A two tier stucco dravida Vimana is on the bhumidesam.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple may belongs to early Pandyas period, 15-16th Century inscriptions are found on the walls.





LEGENDS
It is believed that the Moolavar was worshipped by Veda Vyasa’s father Parasarar. It is also believed that Ramar came to this temple and worshipped Sri Adikesava Perumal of this temple.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Fridays, Vaikunta ekadasi, Krishna Jayanthi, Purattasi Saturdays, Margazhi month all the days, Navaratri etc,. Devotees prays to Anjaneyar to fulfill their wishes and tie coconuts.

This place Paramandur / Paramanthur is on the way to Avudaiyarkoil from Aranthangi, 4 KM before Avudaiyarkoil.
All the buses from Aranthangi, gos through Avudaiyarkoil will stop at this place Paramandur.  
This temple is about 4 KM from Avudaiyarkoil, 10 KM from Aranthangi Bus Stand, 39 KM from Karaikudi.
Nearest Bus Stand is Aranthangi.

Adi Kailasanathar Temple, / ஆதி கைலாசநாதர் கோயில் / வடநகர் / Vadanagar ( Vadakkur ) / Perundurai / Avudayarkoil, Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to Sri Adi Kailasanathar Temple at Vadanagar ( Vadakkur ), Avudayarkoil, was a part of Shiva, Vishnu Temples of Pudukkottai  and Sivagangai Districts Visit on 23rd & 24th September 2023.


Thirunavukkarasu Swamigal has sung hymns in praise of Shiva of many places which are ends with “thuRai- துறை and hence this temple is treated a Vaippu sthalam.

Some of the salient features of this Temple are...
The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. Shiva with Parvati’s kalyana kola stucco image  with Maha Vishnu, Maha Lakshmi and Saraswati are on the top of the mukha mandapam.   Balipeedam, Dwajasthamabam and Rishabam are in the open mukha mandapam. Moolavar is little large on a square avudayar. In koshtam only Dakshinamurthy.

Ambal is in ardha mandapa in standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.

In outer praharam Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Bairavar, Chandran, Suryan and Nagars along with a Shiva Lingam. .

The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a prathi bandha / kapota bandha adhistanam with lotus petals jagathi, Vrudha kumudam, kapotam and prativari. The Bhitti starts with Vedika. Vrutha pillars with square base, naga bandham, kalasam, kudam, mandi Palakai and Pothyal. It seems that, from the prastaram, eka tala vesara Vimanam was constructed with bricks and cement. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the greeva koshtam.





HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that this Shiva temple existed even before Sri Atmanathar Temple at Avudayarkoil.

The temple is under the control of Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam, Thiru kailaya Parambarai Meikanda Santhanam, along with Avudayarkoil Sri Atmanathar Temple and Sri Narayana Perumal Temple.  

Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 25th June 1990 after thirupani to Subramaniar, Chandikeswarar, Bairavar, Suryan, Chandran, rectification of Vimanas and Construction of 3tier Rajagopuram.

Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 14th March 2022, after expanding the ardha mandapam, Maha Mandapam, inner praharam floors, construction of Mani mandapam, installation of new Dwajasthambam.
