Shivaloka Thyagar Temple / Achalpuram Shivalokathyagar Temple / அருள்மிகு சிவலோக தியாகராஜ சுவாமி திருக்கோயில், ஆச்சாள்புரம் , Achalpuram, Thiru Nallurpperumanam, Mayiladuthurai District ( Nagapattinam District ), Tamil Nadu.

This is the 59th Thevara Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam  and 5th  sthalam on the  northern side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. This place Achalpuram, was called as Thirunallur Perumanam (place was called as Nallur and the temple was called as Perumanam ) during 6th to 7th Century and puranam as Shivalokapuram, Mukthipuram, Thirumanavai etc,.


In PeriyaPuranam Sekkizhar mentions that, this was the last temple, which Thirugnanasambandar visited after the marriage and sung hymns on Lord Shiva.

Thirugnanasambandar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. In the first hymn Sambandar mentions that he don’t wants the marriage. ( As per Sthala purana his wife name was Sthothira Poornaambiga, but the inscriptions mentions as “Chokkiyar” )  He asks Lord Shiva whether he asked in any of the temples for a marriage....?. This is the Last temple where he has sung hymns on Lord Shiva. After the marriage Sambandar along with his wife and relative merged with the Shiva jyothi.

Some of the important features of this temple are......
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Rishabam and Dwajasthambam are in front of the Mukha mandapa. Stucco dwarapalakas are in front of the sanctum sanctorum.  Moolavar is swayambhu looks cute. In Koshtam Sri Vinayagar, Sri Dakshinamurthy ( to see the beauty ), Sri Lingothbavar, Sri Brahma  and Sri Durgai. Stucco image of Thirugnanasambandar with his wife merged with Shiva jyoti is above entrance of  moolavar sannadhi.

In the prakaram Vinayagar, Subramaniyar, Rina vimosanar, Mahalakshmi, Bhairavar, Sattainathar, Suryan and Chandran, and 63 var. Also procession deities of Tripura Samharar, Chandrasekar, Sekkizhar, Pichadanar, Thiruneelakanda Yazhapanar, Madhanga soolamani, Neela Nakkar, Muruga Nayanar.

Ambal is in a separate temple facing east with stucco dwarapalakis at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. Vibhuti is given in this shrine instead of Kungumam. The temple is with sanctum sanctorum, artha mandapam and maha mandapam.

Thirugnanasambandar Kalyana mandapam ( 100 pillars mandapa ) in which Thirugnanasambandar marriage festival  will be conducted every year with the rituals of Upanayana, Marriage and procession, after this in the night in the “Shivajyoti Aikiya darshan” are conducted. There is a separate temple for Sri Thirugnanasambandar and his wife, Sri Sthothra Poornambigai in kalyana kolam is in front of Dwajasthambam.


ARCHITECTURE
The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. In addition to this there is a Nadana mandapa.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple might have been existed before 8th century. Latter the temple was reconstructed and extended during Chozhas, Pandyas and Maratha Kings.  

The inscriptions belongs to Chozha Kings Vikrama Chozha, Kulothunga-III, Rajathirajan-II, Rajarajan-III and Pandya kings Maravarman Thiribhuvana Chakravarthy Parakrama Pandyan.   As per the inscriptions Lord Shiva was called as Sri Kailasamudayar, “Thirupperumana mudaya Mahadevar”. Thiruperumanamudaya Nayanar and Kailasamudayar. Ambal was called as Thirukamakottamudaya Nachiyar. Natarajar was called as “Panpathaikka Aadu Nayanar”. This place was under Vadakarai Rajathiraja Valanattu Vennai Oornattu Panchavan mahadevi Kulothunga Chozha Chaturvedi Mangalam. The inscriptions also mentions the places Manickavasaganallur, Aalalasundaranallur, Sivasaravana nallur, which are close to this place.

Chozha King Kulothunga Chozha-III’s 32nd year and 327days reign inscription records the construction of Thirukamakottamudaya Nachiyar and donation of 5 veli Land at Virutharaja bayangara valanattu Vilathur Nattu Chembian Nerkundram ( May be near Virudhachalam ), by Jayankonda Chozhamandalathu Puliyur Kottam Kulothunga Chozhavala nattu Nerkundram ( This place is a part of Chennai ). Since this land had some problem, in lieu of this Two lands donated at Rajathiraja valanattu Thiruvinthalur Nattu Chembangudi  and Chembangudi Chetrur.

An inscription records that a land measuring “moonrumaakkani araikkani” at Saththamangala alias Sivasaranasekara Nallur, was donated for nandhavanam by Thiruvathavur Pillai, after buying.

The Rajaraja-III’s 2nd year and 45th day reign inscription records the details of a Pooja / sandhi called Aayirathu Ennutruvar Santhi. The idols of Thirugnanasambandar ( Aludai Pillayar) and his wife Chokkiyar was installed at Thiruvenkadu, Thirunanipalli, ThiruAkkur ( Akkur ) and Perum PaRRapuliyur ( Chidambaram ). Before installation the idols were taken in procession through this Kailasamudayar Temple and Pooja will be done with Naivedyam. This pooja / sandhi was called as Ayiraththu Ennootruvar sandhi ( 1800 var – may be a merchant group )”. For this endowment donations were made to this temple on their name.

Vikrama Chozha’s 3rd year reign inscription records that Thirugnanasambandar was also called as ParasamayaKolariyar. There was a madam existed in that name. The inscription mentions the marriage of Sambandar and reads as... இக்கோயில் உடைய பிள்ளையார் திருக்கல்யாணம் பண்ணிய திருமாளிகையும்திருவீதியும்திருநந்தவனமும்திருமடைவிளாகமும் நிலம் ஆறு மாவும்”.. This land was donated for annadhanam to the devotees, who comes for the Darshan of Perumanamudayar Temple Maheswarar.

This is one of the 27 temples, administered by Dharmapura adheenam. During the temple’s permanent trustee and 25th Guru Maha Sannidhanam Sri-la-Sri Kayilai Subramaniya Desika Gnanasambanda Paramacharya Swamigal period,  Rajagopuram was renovated, stucco images of Dwarapalakas, Dwara Sakthi and Sthala Purana ( are added in the Rajagopuram), inner & outer compound wall plastered Maha mandapam granite flooring, Construction of Sthothira Poornambigai sannadhi are done in Kurothi year Chithirai month ie 1964CE. Kumbhabhishekam was also conducted.

Dharmapura Adheenams

In 2010, during 26th Guru Maha sannidhanam period, Dwajasthambam mandapam, prakara mandapam, Thirugnanasambandar Kalyana mandapam, Chokkanathar Pooja madam, Commercial complex and servants quarters are constructed and Kumbhabhishekam was also conducted at a cost of 1.22 crores.

LEGENDS
Brahma, Murugan, Bhrighu, Vaister, Athri, Vyasar, Mirugandu, Agasthiyar and Jamathkini, Thiruneelakanda Yazhpanar / Tiru Nilakanta Yazhpanar,  Muruga Nayanar and Thiruneelakanda Nayanar worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple. Kakabhujanda Maharishi attained Mukti in this temple.

After the marriage of Thirugnanasambandar with Sthothra Poornambigai merged with Shivajyoti along with his relatives at this temple. Achal means - Mother, ma Parvati attended the wedding and distributed the Vibhuti Prasad, Hence called as “Sri Venneertru Umai Ammai”. Brahma as Creation and Mahavishnu was granted the power of destroying wicked and demons by Lord Shiva from this temple. Chandran worshiped Lord Shiva and got relieved from the curse.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri, and annual festival of Thirugnanasambandar’s wedding ceremony on moolam star day in Vaikasi.

Palvannanathar Temple / Tirukkazhippalai Palvannanathar Temple, பால்வண்ண நாதர் திருக்கோயில் / Thirukazhipalai / Tirukkazhippalai, Sivapuri, Chidambaram Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu.

This is the 58th Thevaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 4th sthalam on the north side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. This place Thirukazhipalai is between the rivers Uppanaru and Kollidam, also known as Sivapuri is a part of Chidambaram / Thillai. This place Thillai was named after a flora called Thillai Tree ( Excoecaria agallocha Linn ) that dominates in this area. Chidambaram was called different names line, Puliyur, PerumpaRRappuliyur during 7th to 8th Century.


Sekkizhar mentions in Periya Puranam that, Thirugnanasambandar visited this temple after worshiping Lord Shiva of Thiruvetkalam.

Thirugnanasambandar, Appar, Sundarar and Vallalar has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of this temple. In one of the hymn Appar calls Lord Shiva as Piththan- before Sundarar called as Piththaa... Since Appar has sung 5 hymns, the temple might have been a big one and he would have spent some days doing service.

Some of the important features of this temple are .......
Adhikara Nandhi with his consort in the niche on both sides of the 3 tier Rajagopuram. Rishabam with Balipeedam are in front of the mukha mandapa.   

Moolavar is small in size and white in colour on a square avudayar with a horse hoof mark ( a small “kuzhi”/ shallow on top  ), in which abhisheka milk is collected. Other abhisheka are done for Avudayar only. Back of moolavar Lord Shiva with Parvati’s thirukalyana bas-relief  in standing posture. Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.

In Prakaram Suryan, Vinayagar, Giratha moorthy, Mahavishnu, Navagrahas, Kala bhairavar and Chandran. In Natarajar sabha, Natarajar, Ambal Sri Sivakami  with her friends / thozhis on the same pedam.  Ambal is in a separate sannadhi on the right side of the mandapa entrance. Ambal is facing south. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam.

Kala Bhairavar is in a separate Sannadhi without his vahana Dog, similar to Kasi. A 27 Skull mala is around his neck and wearing a serpent around his waist. He looks ferocious with side tooth protruding out side.
 


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTION
The original temple might have been existed before 7th Century, on the banks of river Kollidam, which was about 11 KM from the present place.   The Chozha period temple was also completely damaged during flood in the Kollidam river. The stones were brought to the present place and again  reconstructed with parivara sannadhis by Palaniappa Mudaliar of Padukai Mudaliar family. 

Four inscriptions and some fragment stone inscriptions belongs to Chozha period was recorded from this temple. The stones are not kept in their original places and part of the inscriptions are lost during reconstruction / renovations. The fragment stone inscriptions mentions words Lamps, Silver plates, Naivedyam, etc,.

Rajaraja-I period inscription records the endowment of burning a perpetual lamp to Thirukazhipalai Mahadevar temple for which 10 kasu was deposited in the treasury. For the same one ulakku ghee has to be supplied from the interest. Another inscription of the same king records the endowment of uchi kala pooja and another inscription mentions the name of Madevi Perangadi’s merchant Koothan Azhagan. Another inscription records the endowment of supplying Thumbai flower to the temple for which Vadugan Nallooradigal alias Vikrama Chozha Brahmarayan gave a gift of 5 kasus.

Rejendra Chozha-I's, period inscription records  the endowment of naivedyam to uchi kala pooja for the same a lady who belongs to Gangaikonda Chozhapuram donated gold to this temple.
Maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted  in 2003.

LEGENDS
The Moolavar is white in Colour with a horse hoof mark on top, hence Lord Shiva is called as Palvanna Nathar. As per the legend, during the pilgrimage of Sage Kabila, happened to see this place, with full of bilva trees.  The sand was white in colour and cows are pouring milk on the sand. He made a Shiva Linga out of the white sand. When a cow's hoop damaged the sand Shiva Linga. Sage Kabilar tried to make another Shiva Linga. Lord Shiva with Parvati appeared and advised him to keep the old Shiva Linga itself though damaged, since the milk abhishekam was done by the divine Cow Kamadhenu. It is believed that those who are worshiping Palvanna Nathar will be blessed with all prosperity.  

Valmiki Munivar and Agasthiyar also worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple.  This temple is famous for Bhairava worship. Since the Bhairava is similar to Kasi, special poojas are conducted on theipirai ashtami day ie 8th day after new moon day.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from Regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Navaratri, Maha Shivaratri, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aipasi annabhishekam and Margazhi Thiruvathirai. There is no urchavams / brahmotsavams are conducted in a big way.

Sivapuri Uchi Nathar Temple / Thirunelvayil Shiva Temple / Sri Uchinatheswarar Temple / சிவபுரி உச்சிநாதர் கோயில், Thirunelvayil / Sivapuri, Chidambaram, Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu.

This is the 57th Thevaram Paadal Petra Shiva Sthalam and 3rd  sthalam on the north side of river Kaveri in Chozha Nadu. This place Thirunelvayil, is between the rivers Uppanaru and Kollidam,  also known as Sivapuri is a part of Chidambaram also called as Thillai. The temple is facing east with 5 tier  Rajagopuram and temple tank with Neerali mandapam is in front. Dwajasthambam, Balipeedam and Rishabam are after the Rajagopuram. Moolavar is small on a square avudayar. Shiva and Parvati’s marriage / Kalyana kolam image is on the back side of the moolavar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.

In Prakaram Sri Vinayagar, Sri Subramaniar, Pancha Lingas, Sri Shani Bhagavan, Sri Suryan and Sri Chandran. Ambal is in a separate sannadhi facing south. Nalvar’s bas reliefs are on the mandapa pillars.

The 15th Century Arunagirinathar worshiped Lord Muruga of this temple and sung hymns in praise of him.

The temple consists of sanctum Sanctorum, antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. An ekathala vesara Vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum.
 


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple might have existed before 7th Century may be built by the Pallavas and reconstructed during Chozhas and Vijayanagaras. Three inscriptions are recorded from this temple.

The Vijayanagara period Muthu Venkatappa  Nayaks period, Saka 1564 ie 1642 CE inscription records that, for the wellbeing of Dubash Krishnappa Nayak, a land measuring 25 ma land at Abhishekapuram was donated by Muthu Venkattappa Nayak’s assistant.

As per the records available, the Kumbabishekam are conducted on 11th Sep 2008, 1st Sep 1982, 16th June 1957 and 25th May 1928.  

LEGENDS
It was around noon when Thirugnanasambandar reached the Temple and was feeling hungry. Lord Shiva offered food for him and his disciples, in the guise of priest. Noon time is also called as .. Uchchi pozhuthu.. உச்சி பொழுது...in Tamil. Hence Lord Shiva is called as Uchi Nathar. In Sanskrit, called as “Sri Madhyaneswarar”. In another legend Lord Shiva fed all the people who came  for Thirugnanasambandar’s marriage at Thirunallurperumanam and stayed at this place during noon.    

This is one of the place where Lord Shiva and Parvati gave the Kalyanakola darshan to sage Agathiyar. Kanva Maharishi also worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple.

Apart from regular Poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, Maha Shivaratri. On Vaikasi Visakam day theerthavari will be conducted in the temple tank and Pancha moorthy procession will be held in the evening.
