The Visit to this Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Sevilimedu was a
part of the “Narasimha Temples Visit” in Kanchipuram and Tiruvannamalai Districts,
on 24th March 2024, ie Panguni Uthiram day conducted by Bhakthi Ula,
Pattabhi of Ashok Medicals Velachery, Chennai. Apart from Narasimhar Temples,
Vallakottai Sri Subramaniar Temple, Thennangur Pandurangan Temple, and Perunagar
Jyeshta Devi are also covered in this visit. This temple is on the banks of the Palar River.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple faces east with a 5-tier Rajagopuram. A
Pallava period sandstone lion/Simha pillar, balipeedam, and Garudan are after
the Rajagopuram. Dwarapalakas Jayan Vijayan are at the entrance of ardha
mandapam. Moolavar Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar is about 7 feet tall, in sitting
posture with lower right hand in abhaya hastam, left hand holding Maha
Lakshmi in alingna hastam, and upper hands holding shankha and chakra. Maha
Lakshmi is on the left lap of Narasimhar. Moolavar is about 8 feet tall.
Utsavar Maha Vishnu as Soundarya Varadar is with Sridevi and Bhudevi. Utsavars
and Alwars are in antarala. Anjaneyar, Alwars, Andal are also in the mandapam. There
is no murtis in the deva koshtam.
Thayar Sri Soundaryavalli is in a separate temple with
sanctum sanctorum and Ardha mandapam on the right side of the main temple. Thayar
is in sitting posture with abhaya varada hastam. There is a utsava mandapam on
the left side of the main temple.
ARCHITECTURE
The temple was constructed with stone from adhistanam
to prastaram with stone. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala,
ardha mandapam, and maha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam
with jagathy ( Pada / Padma – not
visible ), vrudha kumudam, and pattikai. The Bhitti starts with vedika. The
pilasters are Vishnu kantha pilasters with square bases & naga bandham,
kalasam, kudam, lotus petals mandi, palakai, and poo mottu pothiyal. Kumba latha
/ panjaras are between koshtas. The prastaram consists of valapi kapotam and
viyyalavari. The vimanam above prastaram is on 2 tiers constructed with bricks.
The Sigaram is of dravida style. Stucco images of Maha Vishnu’s various avatars
are on the tala and greeva koshtas.
HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the original temple belongs to the Pallava period by Parameswara Pallava and the same was reconstructed/expanded
during Vijayanagara’s period.
Maha Samprokshanam was conducted in 2011.

LEGENDS
It is believed that during Muhal's invasion, Kanchipuram
Varadaraja Perumal Utsavras were brought to this temple considering the safety.
Through a tunnel dug between these two temples.
It is further believed that the Varadaraja’s Utsavar was worshipped for
about a year at this temple.
It is believed that Ramanujar, took water from
salaikinaru / Road side Well to Varadaraja Perumal’s thirumanjanam.
POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted
on Vaikunta Ekadasi, Narasimhar Jayanthi, Krishna Jayanthi, Hanuman Jayanthi, Bramotsavam
in the month of Purattasi, etc,.
It was told that Varadaraja Perumal used to visit this
temple on Chitra Pournami day while going to Nadaivavi.
