Sri Swarna Varahi Amman / Sri Varahi Amman Temple / Sri Varahi Temple / Sri Arasalai Amman of Pallur Village in Ranipet District Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this temple is a part of Damal temples Visit scheduled on 15th December 2019. After Visiting Damal temples it was planned to see the Thoongu Thalai Hero stone at Pallur near Tirumalpur. Pallur is a historical place with ancient temples for Village deities, Nadukarkal / Hero stone,  Buddhas, etc,. This temple’s local tale is connected to Thoongu Thalai Nadukal also. This is one of the few ancient temples in which Varahi is the presiding deity.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple is facing south with an entrance arch. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala and artha mandapam. The Vimana is of ekathala rectangular shape. The  presiding deity is Sri Varahi Amman ( a boar headed  Amman) in sitting posture on a buffalo / bison. While the upper hands holds Conch & Chakra and the lower hands are in Abhaya varada hastham. In additions to Varahi, the other 6 sapta Matrikas in small size, are also carved on the same stone. Stucco images of Goddess are on the entrance arch, mandapam and Vimanam.



HISTORY
It was told that Varahi was unearthed from the river Kosasthalai / Kosasthalaiyar River ( Kusithalai River, Korttalaiyar River ), bed and is 1400 years old. It was also told that Rajendra Chozha –I, worshiped this Varahi before proceeding to war towards north.

LEGEND:
Varahi is one of the Sapta Matrikas and 5th of the group. Varahi is the female goddess with the same power of Varaha, one of the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Varahi is believed to the Chieftain of Sri Rajarajeswari. Varahi is mentioned as Arasalai in Varahi sahasranamam.
  
It is believed that Parasuramar has got the pasupatha asthiram from this place and Avvaiyar has sung hymn on Varahi. The best time for worshiping Varahi is at Night. As per Markandeya purana, Varahi went along with Lord Shiva to destroy Andhakasura. She is being called in different names like Panchami, Viswa Vijaya, Pahalamukhi and Varthali.  Also called as Simharooda on Simha, Ashwarooda on Horse, Mahisharooda on buffalo and Viyaghararooda on tiger.


POOJAS
This is one of the parihara sthalam for Sarba sabam, Kula deiva dosha, Graha dosha, Drishti Dosha, Pitru dosha, Pen Sabam, Putra Dosha, Kannipen Dosha, Guru Dosha, Brahmahathi Dosha and Kalasarba Dosha. People used to Pray Varahi to remove obstacles in marriage, Pillisunyam ( Black magic ), getting a good job, to resolve family problems, business development, etc,.

Valarpirai Panchami day, Theipirai panchami day, new moon Day, Tuesday, Full moon day and Fridays  are auspicious days to worship Varahi. Annual festival will be held in Aadi month.
