Sri Thiruvagatheeswaramudayar Temple / ஸ்ரீ திருவகத்தீஸ்வரமுடையார் கோயில், Sadasivanathar Temple / ஸ்ரீ சதாசிவநாதர் திருக்கோயில், Manamai, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with balipeedam and Rishabam / idabam. Stucco image of Lord Shiva with Parvati are on the top of the mukha mandapam. Vinayagar, Murugan and Stucco dwarapalakas are at the entrance of sanctum sanctorum. In kosham, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

In praharam Nalvar, Chandikeswarar, Thiruneelakandar, Ambal Manonmani Ambal, Bairavar and Chandikeswarar. Ambal Manonmani is in a separate sannidhi facing South. Thiruneelakandar is also in a separate sannidhi facing east.



ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum and ardha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a 3 anga adhisthana. An ekathala vesara vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum.


HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple belongs to 11th to 12th Century, Chozha period built with bricks and also reconstructed during recent years. Since the temple was built with bricks, gifts given to this temple are recorded in a separate stone. During Chozha period this place was called as Manamai alias Jananathanallur in Amur Nadu, in Amur Kottam, in Jayangoda Chozhamandalam. Lord Shiva was called as Thiruvagatisvaramudayar

The Kulothunga Chozhas- III’s  24th reign year inscription ( SII 26 - 271 ) on a separate stone records an endowment for which 3 cows are gifted to this temple by a person called Tirunattaperumal a Pakkilan Valavasikhamaninallur for burning a perpetual lamp, in the temple of Aludayar Thiruvagattisvaramudayar at Manami alias Jananathanallur. This place, Manamai alias Jananathanallur was in, Amur nadu under Amur Kottam of Jyangonda Chozha mandalam. 


The other inscription ( SII 26 - 274 ) ( not available now ) Sundarapandyan's 13th Reign year records the gift of two cows for burning sandhi lamps in the temple of Tiruvagattisvaramudaiyar of Manamai alias Jananatha nallur in, Amur Nadu under Amur Kottam of Jayangonda Chozhamandalam, by a woman named Perunkarunaiyatti alias Devarkalabhaiyam, a nyayattar . of Uttaranmerur. The Cows are stated being received by many persons including Gavutaman, Nangai Bhattan, Vadugapillai, a Devakanmi, having right of worship in the temple,  and Ammaiappan Samiyamudali alias .... who had agreed to burn the sandhi lamp accordingly.   

Another Inscription ( SII 26 - 275 ), ( is also not available in this temple ) Jatavarman Sundarapandyan-I's 7th reign year inscription records the endowment of burning a sandhi lamp by the same woman ( above inscription 274 ), is the daughter of Sattuavarappu Purridangondarof Perumpachcheri. It is stated that this was received by Sivabramanas Gavutaman Ammaiappan alias Panayeswara Bhattan, Nangai Bhattan Vadugabhattan, and agreed to burn the sandhi lamp accordingly.   

As per ARE 257 of 1909 ( SII -26, 272 believed to belongs to this temple ). This incomplete inscription belongs to Kulothunga Chozha -I's 6th reign year records an accident. A Certain Perungadan a Palli of Manamai, in Amur Nadu, in Amur Kottam, of Jayangonda Chozhamandalam, and another Palli of the same place name Maran Adavalan, went hunting. There Setti Perungadan shot an arrow on a Virugam ( an wild animal like leopard ). The arrow, however unfortunately hit, Maran Adavalan, and caused his death. The inscription stops at this point.

Sri Sivaloganathar Temple, near Adhi Dravidar School, Manamai, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

The  visit to this Sri Sivaloganathar Temple was a part of Shiva and Vishnu Temple and heritage sites along the East Coast Road, visit on 25th December 2021. Thanks to Kesavan for accompanying with me to all these places.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with a mini Rajagopuram.  Kodimaram base and Rishabam / idabam are after the mini Rajagopuram. In Koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai. Ambal sannidhi is in the ardha mandapam facing south.

The temple is under palalayam ( Ilangoil ), Navagraha sannidhi is under construction and no other parivara sannidhis are found.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a 3 anga adhisthanam with out kumuda. An two tier Stucco Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. A Vimanams are under construction on Moolavar and Ambal’s Sannidhi.





HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple may be of 200 to 300 years old and reconstruction was also done earlier. The temple is under renovation and the jobs are in progress.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Since the temple is under palalayam, no poojas are conducted.

HOW TO REACH
The temple is just opposite to Adhi Dravidar Higher Secondary School at the beginning of the Village.
The temple is 8 KM from Mahabalipuram, 9 KM from Kalpakkam, 11 KM from Thirukazhukundram, 25 KM from Chengalpattu and 62 KM from Chennai Central.

The Mahabalipuram Sculptors name Inscriptions, Nondi Veerappan Thotti, Poonjeri, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

Payyamilippan

Everybody praises the shore temples, 5 Ratas, Arjuna's Penance, Rock Curt Caves with sculptures of Mahabalipuram as wonders and the Pallava Kings who are instrumental for creating such wonders. The sculptures are the master pieces of Pallava Sculptors. The sad part of it is that most of the people, do not know the sculptors who had created those wonders. The names of the Sculptors are inscribed on boulders at Poonjeri. This place was called as “Nondi Veerappan  Thotti”.

The inscription is in Tamil Archaic Tamil and Grantha. This is assigned to the Pallava King Parameswaravarman-I, on palaeographical grounds. These inscriptions are recorded in SII- Volume -XII, no 23-A, AR Nos 105-107 of 1932-33.  

The inscription reads as....
  1. Ke(va)da peruntaccan
  2. Gunamallah
  3. Payyamilippan
  4. Catamukkiyan
  5. Kaliya(ni)
  6. Namah Tiruverriyur A(bha)jar
  7. Kollan (S)emagan

The inscription records Seven personnel names viz Ke(va)da Peruntaccan, Gunamallah,   Payyamilippan, Catamukkiyan, Kaliya(ni), A(bha)jar of Tiruvorriyur and Kollan (S)emagan.

செங்கல்பட்டு மாவட்டம் பூஞ்சேரி கிராமத்தில் மகாபலிபுரத்தில் உள்ள குடைவரைகளை குடைந்த சிற்பிகளின் பெயர்களை ( கெ(வா)காபெருந்தச்சன், பய்யமிழிப்பான், கலியா(ணி), கொல்லன் (ஸெ)மகன், குணமல்லா…., சாதமுக்கியன், மேலும்  நாமா திருவெற்றியூர் அ(பா) ஜர். ) பாறையில் வெட்டுவித்ததை ஆயித்துக்கு மேற்பட்ட ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பின்பும் காணமுடிகின்றது.

Sri Agastheeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ அகத்தீஸ்வரர் கோயில், Acharavakkam / அச்சரவாக்கம், Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu.

The  visit to this Sri Agastheeswarar Temple was a part of Shiva and Vishnu Temple and heritage sites along East Coast Road, visit on 25th December 2021. Thanks to Kesavan for accompanying with me to all these places.

This is one of the Thevara vaippu sthalam sung by Thirunavukkarasu Swamigal. He has sung hymns in praise of Lord Shiva of Agatheechuram along with Nandhikechuram, Mahalaechuram, Nagechuram, Kodeechuram, Kondeechuram, Kukkudechuram,  Akkeechuram, Adakechuram, Ayaneechuram Aththeechuram, Siddheechuram and Ramechuram.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…..
The temple is in the midst of paddy field facing east with a temple tank in front. Balipeedam and Rishabam / Idabam are in front of the Temple. No koshtas are provided. Ambal Sri Anandavalli is in a separate sannidhi in ardha mandapam.

ARCHITECTURE
The original temple was reconstructed with out following any Temple architectural style. No Koshtas are provided.  The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a open metacolour mukha mandapam. A small vesara Vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorumwhich isnot proportionate to the sanctum sanctorum. A Pillar half buried is installed in the mukha mandapam. A deity / human’s head is partially visible on the pillar.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple belongs to Pallava period and nothing is left to prove its antiquity except a 9th Century Pallava King Nirupathungavarman  Period inscription. The inscription stone slab is lying on the back side of the Temple.

Most of the details were lost. As per the ARE ( ARE 108 of 1933 - 34 ) records and SII Vol 12 - 83 the inscription registers a gift of 800 kuli land as archanabogam to this Agastiswara Temple by a certain Sankan after sale.

Apart from regular oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on pradosham and maha Shivaratri days.

Since Gurukkal is coming from far off place, the opening and closing times are unpredictable.

HOW TO REACH
This place Acharavakkam is near Sembakkam in Chengalpattu District.
The temple is about 10.5 KM from Thiruporur, 15 KM from Tirukazhukundram,  21 KM from Chengalpattu and 52 KM from Chennai Central.

Sri Muktheeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ முக்தீஸ்வரர் கோயில், Kaveripakkam, Ranipet District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Muktheeswarar Temple at Kaveripakkam was a part of Shiva, Vishnu Temples and Heritage sites at Thirumalaicherry, Gudimallur and Kaveripakkam. I extend my sincere thanks to Mr Ramesh Krishnamurthy for taking me to all these places. This temple is believed one of the Mukthi sthalam.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with 5 tier Rajagopuram on the south side. Stucco images of Lord Shiva with Parvathi, Vinayagar and Murugan are on the top of the maha mandapam south side entrance. A Balipeedam, dwajasthambam and Rishabam / idabam are on the east side of the temple. It is claimed that the Moolavar in  the sanctum looks like swayambhu, but it is not so on a round avudayar. Stucco Dwarapalakas are at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum. In koshtam, Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai. In praharam, Vinayagar, Sri Valli devasena Subramaniar, Nalvar, Bhairavar, Pancha Lingas  and Navagrahas ( Rahu on tortoise and Shani Bhagwan on Eagle vahana ).

Ambal is in a separate sannidhi in the maha mandapam. Images are in the Koshtams of ambal sannidhi. In the outer praharam Dashabhuja Vinayaka Sannidhi,  a Vinayagar sannidhi, Kalyana mandapa, a Shiva Linga with a Rishabam / Idabam & a part of Vijayanagar period pillar and Utharakosai dosha relieving Dhyana mandapam with various stucco images of Kali etc,.   

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a Maha mandapam. The adhisthana is of kapothabandha adhisthana with Jagathy, Threepatta kumuda and kapotham with nasis. Bhitti starts with vedhika and koshtas are separated by the Brahmakantha pilasters. The pilasters are with malaithongal, kalasam, thadi, kudam, mandi with lotus petals, veerakandam and Vettupothyal. The 2 tier Vimana is with stucco images of Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu with Sridevi and Bhudevi, Brahma are on the 1st level and Greevam koshtams. The sikaram is of vesara style with maha nasis on the 4 cordinal directions. 

The Ardha mandapam was supported with vrutha pillars and Vettu pothyal. The Kalyana mandapam and maha mandapam was constructed during Vijayanagara period. The Pillars has the bas reliefs of Bhairavar, Pichadanar, Veerabhadra, floral motifs, Shiva Lingas, erotic sculptures, Dancers, Rishis, Vinayagar, Murugan, Maha Vishnu, Hanuman, Ramar with Sita and Lakshman,  Donors etc,. The pillar reliefs are painted colorfully.

The temple was reconstructed and found various structures like horizontal beams, makara thorana are used on the prakaram walls.






HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple might have been constructed during Chozha period and the same was reconstructed by Vijayanagara's.
Maha kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 1st October 2017.

LEGENDS
It is believed that Seshadri Swamigal came to this temple and got enlightened, hence the original name of Sri Vedapureeswarar was changed as Sri Muktheeswarar.

It is believed that siddhars attained mukti after worshiping Lord Shiva of this temple. Hence this temple is considered as a mukthi sthalam and devotees can do pithru dosham pariharam in this temple.

Apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Pradosham, maha Shivaratri, New moon days, full moon days, Sankatahara Chaturthi, Kiruthigai, Navaratri, Deepavali, Thai Pongal, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Panguni Uthiram etc,.
