Sri Kariya Kaliamman Temple, ஸ்ரீ கரியகாளியம்மன் திருக்கோவில் Velliraveli, Tiruppur District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Kariya Kaliamman Temple at Velliraveli in Tiruppur District was a part of “Ayyanar, Durgai Sculptures,  Hero Stone and Memorial stones   in Shiva & Amman Temples of Tiruppur and Erode Districts Visit, on 27th and 28th February 2022.

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing east with a Deepa Sthambam and Kundam /Fire walk Kundam. Bas-relief of Durgai and Vinayagar are at the base of the Deepa Sthambam. The Deepa Sthambam Mandapam pillars has the bas-relief of 2 male and females, may be donors. Maduraiveeran / Muneeswarar sannithi with a dog is on the right side of the entrance. Stucco image of Amman is on the top of the entrance along with Vinayagar and Murugan.

Oonjal, Kodimaram and Simha Vahanam are immediately after the entrance. Entrance is in the form of Mandapam where Amman’s procession vahanas are kept. In Praharam Kannimoola Ganapathi, 3 stucco horses and a Stucco Cow.

Dwarapalaka and Dwarapalaki are at the entrance of ardha mandapam. Kariyakaliamman in sanctum is with 8 hands holds various weapons and head of asura. While the right leg is in lifted condition, the left leg is on an asura’s body.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is built with stone up to prastaram. A 3 tier Rajagopuram type Vimanam with 3 Kalasams is over the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of Kariya Kaliamman is on the Vimanam.




HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple may be existed since 18th Century. In 1804 CE the temple, Sanctum Sanctorum, Ardha mandapam, Maha mandapam are renovated along with construction of praharam wall. Chariot utsavam and Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 13th October 1804, by Thiruvenkada Goundan’s son Subramaniya Gounden’s son Chinnappa Gounden of Vellode Vellalar community Sathanthai Gothram, who belongs to Kunnathur Velliraveli in Kuruppa Nadu. ( The work was initiated with erection of Palakal on 15th October 1803 CE ). The original inscription reads as…   ( Erode District Inscriptions )

Temple was reconstructed with Sanctum sanctorum, construction of Parivara Murti sannidhis and Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 24th Feb 2002.

A mock Chariot procession was conducted with new Chariot on 17th February 2010 and Chariot Utsavam was conducted along with Kundam on 27th April 2010, after 250 years. 

On 08th March 2017 Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted after attending repair works.  

The temple is under the administrative control of HR & CE Department, Uthukuli Sri Kailasanathar Temple.

LEGENDS
The Sathanthai sect of Vellalar Community of Kuruppa Nadu worships Kariya Kaliamman as their Kuladeivam and this is also  the Velliraveli Village guarding deity.

Ladies worships on Amavasya days for Child boon and as part of thanksgiving, they do fire walk on annual Kundam Thiruvizha.   

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular oru kala pooja special poojas are conducted on Amavasya Days and Annual festival in the month Chithirai month will be celebrated in a grand manner with Chariot Utsavam and Kundam / Theemithi Thiruvizha.

The temple is about 500 meters the Village Velliraveli and about 2 KM off Kunnathur – Perundurai main Road. Town bus route No 10 is available from Tiruppur and P3 is from Perundurai.
The temple is 7 KM from Kunnathur, 15 KM from Perundurai, 26 KM from Tiruppur and 35 KM from Erode.
Nearest Railway station is Perundurai and Junction is Tirupur and Erode.

Ayyanar Sculpture at Sithivinayagar Temple, Velliraveli, Tiruppur District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Ayyanar bas relief on the south side wall of Sri Sithivinayagar Temple at Velliraveli in Tiruppur District was a part of “Ayyanar & Durgai Sculptures,  Hero Stones and Memorial stones   in Shiva & Amman Temples of Tiruppur and Erode Districts Visit”, on 27th and 28th February 2022.


It was told that this place was a part of a lake and Sambal medu ( A Burial Ground (. This Ayyanar is in the form of a bas relief on a stone slab. This was near the temple installed separately. During recent renovation of this Sithi Vinayagar Temple, this Ayyanar stone slab was fixed on the south side wall.

Ayyanar is sitting in yoga posture with yogapatti on the left leg and right leg is hanging. Holding the Chendu in right hand and left hand is resting on the left knee. Jadamudi is shown in semicircular form on the back of his head.      

HOW TO REACH
The temple is about 200 meters the Village Velliraveli and about 2 KM off Kunnathur – Perundurai main Road. Town bus route No 10 is available from Tiruppur and P3 is from Perundurai.
The temple is 7 KM from Kunnathur, 15 KM from Perundurai, 26 KM from Tiruppur and 35 KM from Erode.

Arulmigu Pidari Veerathamman Temple / அருள்மிகு பிடாரி வீராத்தாம்மன் ஆலயம், பள்ளிக்கரணை / Pallikaranai, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Pidari Veerathamman at Pallikaranai was a part of “Shiva and Vishnu Temples Visit at Urapakkam, Arungal, Kannivakkam, Kumuzhi and Melakottaiyur”, on 20th February 2022. When I inquired for any old temples in Pallikaranai area, people directed me to this Amman Temple, which has unique features. This is a Ellai Kaval Deivam, Gramadevathai and a kulatheivam for 7 Villages around Pallikaranai.




Main Deity       : Sri Pidari Veerathamman

Some of the salient features of this temple are…
The temple is facing North with an entrance arch. Soolams are erected in front of the temple. Stucco image of Veerathamman, Vinayagar and Murugan are on the top of the mukha mandapam. Dwarapalakis / Dwara Sakthis are at the entrance of Sanctum Sanctorum. Stucco image of Amman sitting on Lion, Vinayagar, Parasuramar and Pothuraja are on the top of the entrance to the sanctum sanctorum. The main deity Sri Pidari Veerathamman is in sitting posture with abhaya varadha hastam. Jwala mudi is on Veerathamman’s head. Balipeedam and simha vahanam is in the mandapam. Stucco images of Lord Shiva as Arthnareeswarar, Maha Vishnu, Sri Veerathamman’s various forms are on the mandapam pillars. Ambal’s avathara murtis are in the koshtam.

In praharam, Vinayagar, Varahi, anthill with Nagars under a peepal tree, and Saptakannis in the form of Stones.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The temple was constructed with cement and brick. An 2 tier 8 sided / octagonal  Dravida Vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum. Amman’s various forms are in the 1st tier and greeva Koshtams.  The sanctum sanctorum is of square in shape.





HISTORY AND INSCRIPTION
It is claimed that this temple was existed before Sri Adipureeswarar Shiva temple. Last Chariot festival was conducted in the year 1982. 

The Krishnadevaraya’s period ( 1525 CE ) Tamil inscription mixed with grantha available at Sri Adhipureeswarar Temple records, the equal sharing of the Tax income from the houses ( 1.25 panam for a month ) with periphery markings as south of Pashathanagar  koil, north of sulakkal, east of Veerathal koil to be given to Parvatheeswaramudayar and Veerathal ( Kaliamman ) for maintenance. The inscription also mentions a two thari தறி ) for Thirupana Perumal.

A Silver Kavacham was gifted by Thambiran Nayakar ( Saidapet ), T Neelavathy Ammal, T Selvam Nayakar ( Pallikaranai ) and Sasikala family.

The Temple was reconstructed and Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted 15th September 2013.

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from regular Poojas special poojas are conducted on Fridays and Aadi month. Annual Festival with charriot procession was conducted on 14th Auguts 1982. After that it was discontinued due to misunderstanding between two groups and who should give the first respect.

Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple / ArulMighu Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple, லட்சுமி நாராயணா பெருமாள் கோயில்,, Pallikaranai/ பள்ளிக்கரணை, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal temple at Pallikaranai was a part of “Shiva and Vishnu Temples Visitat Urapakkam, Arungal, Kannivakkam, Kumuzhi and Melakottaiyur”, on 20th February 2022. After Sri Adhipureeswarar darshan had been to this temple, which was kept locked during my earlier Visit.

Some the salient features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with balipeedam, kodimaram and Garudan. Moolavar Sri Lakshmi Narayanar is in sitting posture and Maha Lakshmi is sitting on his left lap. Utsava murtis are in antarala.

In Paraharam Sri Kothanda Ramar, Anjaneyar ( opposite to Kothanda Ramar ) and Srinivasa Perumal.

ARCHITECTURE
The Temple was built with brick. The Vimanam is of 3 anga Vimanam with adhisthanam, Bhitti and Sigaram. An Ekathala Vesara Vimanam called Sesha Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Varahar, Narasimhar, Krishnar are in the Greeva Koshtam along with thala Vahana Garudan.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the original temple belongs to 12th to 13th Century, 900 years old. During Chozha period this place was called as Madura Lakshmi Narayanapuram.

This is one of the Kanthadai vaathoola Desika annavilappa Sri Mudaliandan swami’s Abimana sthalam of Maha Vishnu. It was popular that both Periya Swamigal came and submitted their Thiruvarathanam to Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal. Varthamana Swamigal installed the images of Manavala mamunigal  and his disciple Appachiyar. Manavalamamunigal called his disciple as “Nam / Our Appachiar”, which shows the intimacy between them.

A Court judgement order ( WMP No 20040 /95 and WMP No 125551/ 95 )  display shows that the encroached lands belonging to this temple, was in-favour of the temple and the trespasser will be prosecuted.


Srinivasa Perumal

The inscription also mentions a two thari தறி ) for Thirupana Perumal. ( The Perumal mentioned in this inscription may be this temples Perumal. )

LEGENDS
It is believed that Lakshmi Narayanar gave darshan to Adiseshan.
Devotees worships Lakshmi Narayana Perumal for the re-union of separated couples, to remove difference of opinions, to remove marriage obstacles, for Child boon, etc,.
