SRI CHANDIKESWARA TEMPLE – HAMPI RUINS, A HERITAGE VISIT

..... a continuation post to Sri Udanna Virabhadrarar temple
19th June 2017.
This temple and is very near to Sri Uadanna Virabhadrar temple dedicated to Chandikeswara facing east. Originally this was dedicated Vishnu called Thiruvengalanatha. The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, antarala, mahamandapa and muka mandapa.  We could see  lot of vaishnava related reliefs on the pillars like Hanuman, Garuda, Balakrishna, Kamadhenu, Srinivasa, Vamana, Yasodha churning milk etc,. There is a petam with Garuda's relief in the sanctum. The super structure of the sanctum was built with brick and stucco images of Vaishnava. Thayar sannadhi is on the north west corner. A Pillared cloister runs round the two sannadhis.  Then how this temple was called as Chandikeswara Temple, do not know.

A Nandhi is sitting in  the mandapam and a Shiva Lingam also installed in one of the sannadhi. There is an Ambal sannadhi built at a latter stage is on the left side of the moolavar sannadhi.
