Sri Adipadai Prasanna Vinayagar Temple /ஸ்ரீ அடிப்படை விநாயகர் கோயில், Mint Street Sowcarpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Adipadai Prasanna Vinayagar Temple in Mint Street in Sowcarpet, George Town, Chennai was a part of the “Amman, Shiva, Vishnu and Vinayagar Temples of Chennai Visit” on 30th March 2025. This Vinayagar temple is on Mint Street, where most North Indian community worships.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with the entrance mandapa on the east side. Drala palakas are on both sides of the mandapam and sanctum sanctorum. In the sanctum Sanctorum, Vinayagar is with his Consorts Siddhi and Buddhi. On the left of the main shrine is for Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, and on the right side is for Sri Kasi Viswanathar and Visalakshi. Annapooranai is also in a separate sannidhi facing south. Annapoorani is in a standing posture.

ARCHITECTURE
The total temple was constructed of bricks and lime mortar. Vinayagar sannidhi vimanam is of three tiers. Sri Subramaniar and Shiva’s sannidhi Vimanas are of two tiers. The kalasas are missing. Vinayagar Shrine’s koshtas are with various forms of Vinayagar. The Shiva Shrine’s koshtas are with Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Brahma, and Durgai.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This temple is about 150 to 200 years old. This temple is on Mint Street, once controlled by the North Indian community. Even now, most of the Devotees of this temple are North Indian Community.

The temple control was taken over by the Tamil Nadu HR & CE Department, and a legal battle is the process between the Trustees and the HR & CE.

This inscription may belong to the Vijayanagara Nayakas period and records the construction of this temple 

LEGENDS
As per the legend, this Vinayagar is treated as the first God of every activity, whether it may be a business, or worship, and the basis of all the Gods and their activities. Hence, this Vinayagar is called Adipadai Vinayagar Temple.

Apart from regular Poojas, special poojas are conducted on Maha Shivaratri Days, Sankadahara Chaturthi, Vinayagar Chaturthi, etc.

Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Temple/ ஸ்ரீ வீரபத்ர சுவாமி கோயில், Audiappa Naiken Street, George Town, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Temple, Audiappa Naiken Street, George Town, Chennai was a part of the “Amman, Shiva, Vishnu and Vinayagar Temples of Chennai Visit” on 30th March 2025. This is one of the Veerabhadra Temples of Chennai (The Veerabhadra Swamy Temple at Mylapore), exclusively dedicated to Sri Veerabhadra Swamy, one of the forms of Shiva, in Chennai.

The temple faces east with a stucco image of Veerabhadra and Dhaksha with a Goat’s head.

In the praharam, there are Bhadrakali, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, the Navagrahas, Natarajar with Sivakami, and Manickavasagar.



ARCHITECTURE
The main temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum and the ardha mandapam. Since the mandapam was built, the Vimanam is not visible.

The temple is more than 200 years old, and the sub-sannidhis were added in recent years.

LEGENDS
As per the legend, Daksha father of Dakshayani, did a yaga, without inviting Shiva and also without giving the due share. When Dakshayani’s effort failed, she jumped into the agni khund and died. Shiva became very angry and sent Veerabhadra to destroy the yaga. Veerabhadra destroyed the yaga and cut the head of Dhaksha. At the request of the celestial deities, Veerabhadra replaced the head with a Goat’s head.

Sri Varadaraja Manavala Mamuni Thirukoil/ Vudayavar Kovil / உடையவர் கோவில், Varadha Muthiyappan St, Seven Wells South, George Town, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Varadaraja Manavala Mamuni Thirukoil on Varadharaja Muthiyappan St. in Seven Wells Audiappa Naicken Street in George Town, Chennai was a part of “Amman, Shiva, Vishnu, and Vinayagar Temples of Chennai Visit” on 30th March 2025.


This is the only temple where the Manavala Mamuni (1370-1443), one of the Gurus of Vaishnavam, named for a temple in Chennai, connected to Thenkalai. This temple is also known as Udayavar (Ramanujar) Temple.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a 5-tier Rajagopuram on the west side. Balipeedam, dwajasthambam, and Garudan are on the east side. Moolavar Sri Varadaraja Perumal is in a standing posture with Sridevi and Bhudevi.  Ramanujar and Manavala Mamunigal are in separate sannidhis. Stone elephants are at the entrance of the mandapas.

In praharam, Anjaneyar, Senai Mudalvar, Perundevi Thayar, Andal, Srinivasa Perumal, and Vahanas.

The utsava murtis, Sri Varadaraja Perumal with Sridevi Bhudevi, Sri Chella Pillai Rayar with his Consorts, Andal, Ramanujar, and Manavala Mamuni, are on a separate sannidhi.


ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam, and mukha mandapam. The koshtas are empty. A Two-tier brick vimanam is above the sanctum sanctorum. Donor images are found on the pillars.






HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This is the only temple where the Manavala Mamuni (1370-1443 CE), one of the Gurus of Vaishnavam, is named for a temple in Chennai.

This temple sannidhi and mandapam was constructed in the year 1921, Chelvapilla Rayadu, and consecrated (installed) in July 1922, by Sreeman Cheedella Rangamannar Chetty and renovated by Cheedella Chinnikrishnan in the memory of his father and Mother Cheedella Rangamannar Chetty and Pushpavalli Thayaramma on 29th August 1976.

Ramanuja Vimanam was also constructed on 29th August 1976.

On 13th August 2006, for the benefit of the Public, Dhanvantri Yagna was conducted and a water tank was declared open.

Ashtabandhana Maha samprokshanam was conducted on 19th August 1973.

The 1924 Telugu inscription records the donors of the 15-pillar mandapa and 24-column mandapa as Ramrangayya and Anjaneyar.

The Ranganathar sannidhi renovation was done in 1975, and Rajagopuram was constructed in 1976.

Now the temple is in palalayam. On normal days, apart from regular poojas, special poojas are conducted on Margazhi Saturdays, Rama Navami, Vaikunta Ekadasi, etc. The annual Brahmotsavam will be held in the month of Vaikasi.

Shree Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple/ திரு கன்னிகா பரமேசுவரி கோயில், Audiappa Naicken St, kothawal bazaar, Broadway, George Town, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Shree Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple on Audiappa Naicken Street in Broadway, Chennai was a part of “Amman, Shiva and a Vinayagar Temples of Chennai Visit”- on 30th March 2025. The temple is being maintained by the SKPD TRUST of the Arya Vysya Community.


Moolavar: Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. Sri Kanyaka Parameswari is in a standing posture with abhaya varada hastam.

Vinayagar with Nagars are under a peepal tree. Navagraha sannidhi is on the southeast corner of the mandapam. Utsava vigrahas are on the northwest and southwest corners of the temple. Mandapa walls have the Tanjore paintings of Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari’s incarnation and Charithra.

In the Mandahasa Mandapam are the Sri Nagareeswara (in Emerald), Sri Kothandaramar, Sri Venkatachalapathi, Sri Muruga, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Sri Hanuman, Rishabh vigrahas, Spatika Lingam, Maragadha Lingam, and Saligramams, which have been worshipped for more than a century. You can also see the Navarathri Kalasam with Narikelapalam which is received from the blessings of Sri Kanchi Sankara Matam and preserved until the next Navarathri.





ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum and the ardha mandapam. The temple was constructed with stone from adhistanam to sigaram. The adhistanam consists of jagathy, vrudha kumudam, and pattikai. The Vimanam is of dravida style.

On the right side of the sanctum sanctorum are the Adhala Mandapam and Mandahasa Mandapam.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
Sri Kanyaka Parameshwari Devasthanam and Charities owes its existence to the blessings of Sri Vasavamba, the presiding deity of the Arya Vysya community.

With the philanthropic services and support of the members of the Arya Vysya Community and under the able leadership of Suncoo Chinna Kistamah Chetty and Collah Moothoorama Chetty, a temple for Sri Kanyaka Parameshwari Ammavaru was constructed in the year 1720 in the “Kooragayala Thota” at Audiappa Naicken Street, Madras. The temple activities are being maintained by the SKPD Chennai Trust.

Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 1973, 1982, 1994, and 2006. The Rajagopuram was constructed in 1984, the Anna Sattram was constructed in 1985, the Rajagopuram kalasam was gifted in 1984, and the convention center was constructed in 2019.

Apart from temple activities, the trust extends its service in Education (Running an Arts College), Senior Citizens support, Anna Sattram, Crematorium, etc.
