Shri Varamuktheeswarar Temple / ஶ்ரீ வரமுக்தீஸ்வரர் ஆலயம், Erumaivettipalayam, Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

The Visit to this Sri Varamuktheeswarar Temple at New Erumaivettipalayam was a part of the “Shiva and Vishnu Temples Visit, in Tiruvallur District on, 1st September 2024”. The temple is on the banks of the Kusasthalaiyar River where the river flows from South to the north and west to east.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east, with a 5-tier Rajagopuram on the south side. An entrance arch is also on the east side, with Shiva and Parvati’s stucco image. Stucco images of Shiva, Parvati, Vinayagar, Murugan, Rishis, and Munivars are on the top of the mukha mandapam.  Dawajasthambam, balipeedam, and Rishabam are in front of the temple. Koshta images are yet to be installed.

Ambal is in a separate temple facing east on Shiva’s right side. Ambal is in standing posture with abhaya vadara hastam.

In praharam Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniyar, Chandikeswarar and Bairavar.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of Sanctum Sanctorum, antarala, and ardha mandapam. The Sanctum Sanctorum is on a Pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, three patta kumudam, and Pattaikai. The Bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam and palakai and Vettu pothyal. Deva Koshtas are sala style. Kumbha banjaras are in between Salai Pathi and karnapathi. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam with nasi kudus. The two tala vesara Vimanam. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, and Brahma are in the Tala and Greeva Koshtams.

The temple up to prastaram was constructed with red laterite stone and above prastaram was constructed with bricks. The complete temple was plastered with lime mortar.

The Rajagopuram is also constructed with the same red laterite stone up to Kalkaram. The superstructure was constructed with bricks.

The temple may be 700 to 800 years old, and received contributions from Chozhas, Vijayanagaras, and Nayakas.

LEGENDS
It is believed that Suryan worshipped Shiva and Ambal at this temple. The Sun’s rays used to fall 3 days in a year. Moolavar and Ambal Sannidhis are constructed as Kalyana kolam. Hence Devotees conduct their Sashtiapthapoothi and Sathabishekam in this Temple. Also, it is believed that Shiva will give Mukti to the Devotees, Hence Shiva is called Vara Muktheeswarar

POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS
Apart from Regular Poojas, special poojas are conducted on Fridays, Amavasya, Pournami, Pradosham, and Maha Shivaratri days.

The temple will be kept open, between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.30 hrs.

The place Erumaivettipalayam is about 6.6 KM from Karanodai, 18 KM from Ponneri, 21 KM from Puzhal, 31 KM from Koyambedu, and 31 KM from Chennai Central.
Nearest Railway Station is Ponneri.
