The Gobi Arts and
Science College has a collection of heritage and antique articles, which
includes these 5 hero stones. Out of 5 hero stones, 3 are Pulikuthi Karkal, which
are generally available in the Kongu region. Only one hero stone has the
inscription. As per the experts these Hero, Pulikuthi and Sati stones belong
to the 16th to 17th Century.

The first Hero stone
is the Pulikuthi sati stone of a single stage. The hero is looking straight. While
the hero is killing the tiger with his sword, the left hand is in the tiger’s
mouth. His wife is standing on his right holding the liquor pot in her right
hand.
The second Nadukal
is a three-tier sati stone, the bottom tier is broken and missing. In the
middle level, the hero and his wife are taken to heaven by the angels, and in
the top level, both the hero and his wife worship Lord Shiva. Since the first
level is missing the reason for the hero’s death is not known.
The Third one is a
hero stone. The hero is looking straight holding a big sword in up direction on
his right hand and a shield in his left hand. A Katar is shown on his hip. Two
dogs are also shown on both sides. The
hero might have died in a war along with his dogs.
The fourth hero
stone is a Pulikuthi Sati Stone with three
levels. In the bottom level the hero is killing the tiger and his wife is shown
on his right side. In the middle level the hero is taken to heaven by the
angels and in the top level the hero is worshiping lord Shiva.
The fifth hero stone
is a Pulikuthi Kal. The hero is looking straight and killing the tiger with a spear
in his right hand. His left hand is shown in the tiger’s mouth. A Katar is shown on his
hip. The inscription is found above his head. Since the inscriptions are highly
eroded, what is inscribed is not known.
