SRI BALA SUBRAMANIYA SWAMY TEMPLE AT PUGHAZHIMALAI OTHERWISE KNOWN AS ARUNATTAR MALAI, VELAYUTHAMPALAYAM, NEAR KARUR TAMIL NADU

This Sri Bala Subramaiya Swamy temple is on a small hill with 350 steps from the base with a mandapam at the base of the hill. The original name of Pughazhiyur latter turned to Pugazhur. But this temple mentions as Pugazhiyur Murugan Temple.

Some of the important details are.....
At the entrance of the steps Mandapam with Subramaniyar vahana Peacock. Sannadhi for Malaipadi Iyyanar, a  guarding deity and Sapthakannaiyars at at the middle of the hill. Stucco images of the Shiva’s family depicts the story associated with Palani hills Murugan Temple. On the right Stucco images of Valli and Murugan in the forest with animals. As we stepped further, the Idumpan sannadhi. At the side of the Idumpan sannadhi there is an entrance to Jain beds with Brahmi inscriptions.

Sri Bala Subramaniya Swamy Temple is on the top of the hill  and palipedam, Deepa sthambam, peacock  vahana are in front. The temple is facing north. The Sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, Arthamandapam and muka mandapam. Sannadhi for Meenakshi, Sundareswarar, Natarajar, Arumugar, Nagars, Navagrahas, Sani, Durgai. Reddi Chettirar statues with his two wives are in the outer prakaram. (The Reddy Chettiars might have done thirupani to this temple).

Arunagirinathar has sung hymn "Thirupukazh" in praise of Sri Bala Subramaniya Swamy of this temple. Panguni uthiram, Kiruthikai, Shasti, Thaipoosam are celebrated in a grand manner. Devotees used to take different types of Kavadi to this temple.

As per the legend, before going to Palani Murugan stayed here as Sri Bala Subramaniyar to bless  his devotees.  It was told  that the deity is worshiped as a small child  in the morning, as adult in the afternoon and aged in  the evening.  Devotees believes that marriage obstacles will be removed if one pray Sri Bala Subramaniyar.

The Tamil Nadu News Print and Papers Limited Company  (TNPL) is about 5 KM from this place Velayuthampalayam and they had done  some contributions to this temple.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

HOW TO REACH:
Velayuthampalayam is about  16 KM from  Karur and 37 KM from Namakkal. TNSTC Buses are available from both places.
