Sri Balasubramanya Swamy Temple, at Pugalur Malai / Arnattar Malai, Velayuthampalayam, Karur District, Tamil Nadu.

This Sri Bala Subramanya Swamy temple is on a small hill with 350 steps from the base with a mandapam at the base of the hill. The original name of Pughazhiyur later turned to Pugalur. But this temple is mentioned as Pugazhiyur Murugan Temple.

Some of the important details are.....
At the entrance of the steps Mandapam with Subramaniyar vahana Peacock. Sannadhi for Malai Padi Ayyanar, a guarding deity, and Sapthakannaiyars at the middle of the hill. Stucco images of the Shiva family depict the story associated with Palani Hills Murugan Temple. On the right Stucco images of Valli and Murugan in the forest with animals. As we stepped further, the Idumpan sannadhi. 

Sri Bala Subramanya Swamy Temple is on the top of the hill  and balipedam, Deepa sthambam, and peacock  vahana are in front. The temple is facing north. Sannadhi for Meenakshi, Sundareswarar, Natarajar, Arumugar, Nagars, Navagrahas, Sani, Durgai. Reddi Chettiar's statues with his two wives are in the outer praharam. (The Reddy Chettiars might have done thirupani to this temple).

Arunagirinathar has sung the hymn "Thiruppugazh" in praise of Sri Bala Subramanya Swamy of this temple. Panguni uthiram, Kiruthigai, Shasti, Thaipoosam are celebrated in a grand manner. Devotees used to take different types of Kavadi to this temple.

ARCHITECTURE
The Sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum, Artha mandapam and mukha mandapam.
 

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple may belong to 400 to 500 years old. The Tamil Nadu News Print and Papers Limited Company  (TNPL) is about 5 KM from this place Velayuthampalayam and they have made some contributions to this temple.

At the side of the Idumpan sannadhi, there is an entrance to Jain beds with Brahmi inscriptions.

(The Reddy Chettiars might have done thirupani to this temple).

LEGENDS
As per the legend, before going to Palani Murugan stayed here as Sri Balasubramaniar to bless his devotees. It was told that the deity is worshiped as a small child in the morning, as an adult in the afternoon, and aged in the evening. Devotees believe that marriage obstacles will be removed if one prays Sri Balasubramaniar.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will be kept open between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs.

HOW TO REACH:
Velayuthampalayam is about 16 km from Karur and 37 km from Namakkal. TNSTC Buses are available from both places.
