Mr
Nandeeswaran of Periyapuliyur had posted a three tier Hero stone erected in a
Kali Temple on the facebook. I was eagerly waiting for a chance to see that.
This came to true on 4th April 2017, when I went to Kavindapadi / Kavandapadi to see my brother and Periyapuliyur is very near. Mr Nandeeswaran took me to
this Kali temple, which has rich history behind that. In addition to this there
is an Ayyanar statue half buried also available, adjacent to Kali Temple.
Since Ayyanar Statues are available on both places, it was told by the
historians that this village must be on the ancient trade route from Salem,
Belur to Sathyamangalam & Mysore. The Thavvai statue installed in the
same village temple also an evidence that the Village must be on the trade
route.
The
construction of the Kali temple was not completed. We could find fragments of
inscription stones, remains of stones used in the mandapam and non standard
bricks used during Chozha Period strewn around the KALI temple. The Kali
temple is on an elevated place. We are told that, the temple was on the banks
of a small lake, which is no more now. Also it was told that the Villagers
unearthed some big bones ( belongs to elephants ) during excavation for
construction purposes. This increases doubt that a war might have took place in
this area. In addition to this we had seen two statues in a similar posture
holding snakes. The identity is not known.

நந்தீஸ்வரன் அவர்கள் தன்னுடைய முக நூலில் ஆலத்தூர் மற்றும் பெரியபுலியூரில் தான் கண்ட
அய்யனார், காளி மற்றும் மூன்று நிலை வீரனின் நடுகல் பற்றி பதிவு செய்து இருந்தார்.
இந்த இரண்டு ஊர்களும் என்னுடைய அண்ணாரின் ஊருக்கு மிகவும் அருகிலேயே இருப்பதால். அவற்றை
காணும் வாய்ப்பை எதிர்பார்த்து இருந்தேன். கடந்த ஏப்ரல் மாதம் 4ந்தேதி அதற்கான சந்தர்ப்பம்
கிட்டியது. திரு நந்தீஸ்வரன் இவ்விரு இடங்களுக்கும் அழைத்துச் சென்றார்.
திருத்தமாக
செய்யப்பட்ட பாதி புதைந்த நிலையில் அய்யனார் காளி கோவிலின் ஓரத்திலேயே இருந்தது. காளி
கோவிலின் வளாகத்தில் மண்டபத்தின் உடைந்த கற்
துண்டுகல், சிதைந்த நிலையில் உள்ள ஒரு கல்வெட்டு துண்டு, இவர்கள் யார் என்று தெரியாத நிலையில் கையில் பாம்புடன் இரண்டு சிலைகள் காணப்பட்டது. ஆறிஞர்களின் கூற்றுப்படி இந்த ஊர் பழங்காலத்தைச்
சேர்ந்த வணிக பாதையாக இருக்க வாய்ப்புகள் அதிகம் இருப்பதாக கூறினர். இதற்கு மேலும்
வலு சேர்ப்பதற்க்கு பெரியபுலியூரில் கிடைக்கும் ஒரு தவ்வை தாய் சிலையும் உள்ளது. மேலும்
இந்த ஊரில் நிலத்தைத் தோண்டும் பொழுது யானையின் எலும்புகள் கிடைத்ததாக கூறப்பட்டது.
இது இங்கு உள்ள மூன்று நிலை வீரனின் நடுகல்லும்
இங்கு ஒருகாலத்தில் போர் நடந்ததிற்கான அறிகுறிகளாக இருக்கலாமோ என்று எண்ணத் தோன்றுகின்றது.

THREE TIER
HERO STONE / SATI STONE
This
is a three stage Hero Stone / nadukal ( also known as satikal ) for a
solder who died in the war and his three wives who jumped in the funeral fire.
In the first stage the Hero and his three wives are shown. In the middle stage
six deva kannaiyar leading them after death to Lord. Here the Lord is Perumal
or Vishnu, since on the right side top corner seems to be Garudalwar, which is
shown in the upper tier.
முதல் நிலையில் இறந்த வீரன் குதிரைமீது அமர்ந்து கையில் வாளுடன்..வலது புறத்தில் அவனுடைய மனைவியர்.. நடு நிலையில் தேவ கன்னியர் வெண்சாமரத்துடன் இறந்த வீரன் அவனது மனைவியரை மேலுலகம் அழைத்துச் செல்லுதல்.. மேலே உள்ள வரிசையில் அவர்கள் இறைவனை தொழுதுகொண்டு இருப்பது காட்டப்பட்டு உள்ளது.. இங்கு கருடாழ்வார் போன்ற சிற்பம் காட்டப்பட்டு இருப்பதால் இறைவன் பெருமாளாகவும் / விஷ்னுவாகவும் வீரனும் அவனது மனைவியரும் வைனவர்களாகவும் இருக்கலாம் என்பது ஆய்வாளர்களின் கருத்து..

On
the way to Periyapuliyur from Kavindapadi we had seen an Ayyanar statue
installed at the road side opposite to Alathur Panchayat Board Office.
