Krishnagiri Hero Stones Part-4
The
Visit to the Hero and Sati Stone is part of the Kaveripattinam Heritage Visit. The two-day visit was mainly focused on
Rock arts in the natural caves around Kaveripattinam and Krishnagiri. On the
way, we came across many Menhirs, Hero, and Sati Stones which are very
unique. Some of the details are….
HERO STONE AT GUDDAPATTI
This
hero stone is also a unique one erected inside a stone house. The hero is
holding a big sword in his right hand and a kattar in his right hand. A small
sword is tied to his waist and a half dress is shown below his waist. There are
whisks / Chowri shown on both sides of the head. The hero wears ornaments on his neck and ears. In addition to this, there are
two parrots are shown. This signifies that these two parrots were his pet
birds. There is also a man’s looks like the hero is
shown on the right side of the hero. looking at the style of the tuft this hero stone may belong to the 16th to 17th Century.
HERO STONE – SELAI KARUPPAN SAMY
NADUKAL.- PACHAKANAPALLI ( 12deg 31’51,2” N 78 deg 12’18”E )
This
16th to 17th Century Hero stone is erected under a tree in the middle of a
farmland. This Hero stone comprises two parts. On the right bottom is a
Pulikuthi relief. This means that the hero Killed a Tiger. The main part is a bigger image of the Hero.
The hero is shown standing with his legs apart on the left side. The Hero holds
a sword in his right hand and a bow in his left hand. A scabbard is tied on the
right side of his waist. A spear is pierced through his chest with its sharp end shown on his back. A half
dress is shown below his waist. The hero killed a tiger and later he might
have killed in a war.
HERO AND SATI STONES OF ANNAMALAIHALLI
NEAR AR THALLI KOOT ROAD.
This
group of 5 hero stones is installed under a tree near the Arthalli Koot Road
overhead tank. The unique feature of this group is two Nadukals installed for two ladies, of which one lady
was killed by a tiger and the other lady died due to a snake bite. A Sati stone and a Hero stone are in the form
of bas reliefs chiseled on a boulder itself and not on a separate slab stone.
In
the sati stone, the hero is shown at the center with his two wives. The hero is
holding an aruval in his raised right hand and a kattar in his left hand. The hero
is standing with his legs apart. His wife's hands are holding pots and are shown
symmetrical.
On
the right, A hero stone is also chiseled. The hero is fighting with a soldier on
a horse. The hero holds a sword in his right hand and a kattar in his left hand.
Also, there is a man (small) shown below the horse.
