The visit to this Sri Ramar Temple at Manellore, Madharpakkam, in
Tiruvallur District was part of the Gajaprishta Vimana Temple, Shiva Temple,
Vishnu Temple, and ASI Excavation site in Tiruvallur District of Tamil Nadu and
Tirupati District of Andhra Pradesh.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are….
The
temple faces east with a three-tier Rajagopuram. A Dwajasthamabam and Anjaneyar
are in front of the temple. The entrance to the ardha mandapam is from the south.
Stucco bas-relief dwarapalakas are on either side of the entrance. In the sanctum sanctorum, Ramar is with Sita and Lakshmana.
ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of a sanctum sanctorum and an ardha mandapam. The temple was
built with laterite stone and plastered with lime mortar. An eka tala vesara
vimanam is over the sanctum sanctorum.
The
Rajagopuram entrance is kept locked, since it is in dilapidated condition. The
Rajagopuram was built with laterite stone up to kalkaram, and the above talas are
built with bricks.
HISTORY
AND INSCRIPTIONS
It
is claimed that the temple is more than 1000 years old, and there is no evidence to prove
the same. The present structure may have been built during the Vijayanagara Nayakas
period, 300 to 400 years old.

The
temple is at Manellore, a part of Madharpakkam, close to the Tamil Nadu and Andhra
Pradesh border. The temple is about 2 km from Madharpakkam, 7.5 km from
Sathyavedu (Andhra Pradesh), 13.5 km from Gummidipoondi, and 50 km from
Tiruvallur.
