Sri Thiruvakeeswarar Temple/ Sri Thiruvakneeswarar Temple, அருள்மிகு திருப்புரசுந்தரி சமேத திருவாக்கீஸ்வரர் கோயில், Kannigaipair, Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

This Sri Thiruvakeeswarar temple is also known as Thiruvakneeswarar Temple at Kannigaipair, in the Southeast corner of the village. The visit to this temple was part of the Gajaprishta Vimana temple visit on 23rd August 2026.

Some of the salient features of this temple are….
The temple faces east with entrances from the south and east (Kept locked). Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the sanctum sanctorum. Moolavar is on a round avudaiyar.

Ambal Sri Thiripurasundarai is in a separate Sannidhi and faces south. Ambal is in a standing posture with Abhaya Varada hastam.

In the praharam, Sri Thanachezhiya Vinayagar, Bala Murugan, Chandikeswarar, and Navagrahas.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, and open metacolour sheet mukha mandapam. The temple was built in Gajaprishta style. The Gajaprishta sanctum sanctorum is on a granite stone platform. The Jagathy and three patta kumudam are built of stone. The bhitti was built with bricks. There are no koshtas. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam. There is no superstructure / vimanam above the bhumi desam.






HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple was built in the 9th to 11th-century Pallava/Chozha period and later received contributions from the Vijayanagaras rulers. Vijayanagara period inscriptions are found on the adhistanam.

A separate stone slab with a 10th- to 11th-century inscription near the sanctum sanctorum.

The temple is about 200 meters from Kannigaipair bus stop on Tirupati Road. City buses are available from Red Hills and Koyambedu. Andhra Pradesh buses will stop at Kannigaipair.
The temple is about 7.3 km from Periyapalayam, 18.3 km from Koyambedu CMBT, 18 km from Ponneri, and 25 km from Madhavaram Bus Depot.
The nearest Railway Station is Ponneri.
