LEGENDS
As per the legend, Ma Parvati wants to know how Shiva made this universe to function. When she asked Shiva, Shiva made her close his eyes playfully. Due to this, the universe came to a standstill. Ma Parvati begged Shiva to pardon her. Angered, Shiva told her that he would mingle with the Hasthavarna Jyothi and asked her to become a Cow and find the Hasthavarna Jyothi. Ma Parvati took the form of a cow and searched for the Hasthavarna Jyothi. Shiva gave darshan in the form of Hasthavarna Jyothi on a Hastha Nakshatra day. The Hasthavarna Jyothi is also called “Komaliya Jyothi”.  Hence, Shiva gave darshan to Ma Parvati with mercy / Krupa) Shiva is called Krupakupareswarar.

It is believed that Siddhars and Sages worship Shiva on Hastha Nakshatra day, circumambulating in Anjali hastam. Hence, this is a “Hasta Nakshatra Temple”. Devotees pray to Shiva and Annapoorani for marriages, to excel in studies, Dance, Music, etc. As a pariharam, devotees offer Kolukkattai, Vada, Laddu, etc to Shiva and Ambal after circumambulating the praharam in Anjali hastam.
