Shri Bhimashankar Temple, Bhorgiri, Sahyadri Hills, near Pune, Maharashtra - A Jyotirlinga Temple Yatra.

 23rd  February, 2016.

DAY -6, 07-02-2016.

After darshan of Shri Trimbakeshwar, we started early morning for the darshan of Shri Bhimashankar.

Some of the important features of this temple are….
The temple is in the midst of Sahyadri Hills at Bhorgiri Village 50 K west of Khed near Pune, at the start point of the river  Bhima and facing east. The temple is about 200 hundred well laid steps  below the main road with an entrance arch. There are 2 Nandis and a vilakkuthoon at the entrance. Moolavar is 5 feet below the ground level.  In koshtam Krishna, Vinayagar and Shiva. In kapotha Shiva sitting on Rishabam.

The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, artha mandapam and Maha mandapam. There is also a nandhi at the artha mandapam. The front mandapam was built at a latter state.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The King Shivaji and Rajaram  Maharaj visited this temple. The Divan  of the Peshwar, nana Phadanvis renovated the temple. The mandapam was built by a Pune trader or Sahukar by the name Chimanji Antaji Nayik Bhinde in the year 1437 CE.

Shri Trimbakeshwar Temple, Trimbak, Maharashtra, India - A Jyotirlinga Temples Yatra.

DAY -5, 06-02-2016.
After darshan of Nashik, Epic Ramayan sites, we continued our journey to Trimbak to worship Trimbakeshwar. Stayed in a lodge at the entrance of Trimbak.

Some of the important features of this temple are….
The temple facing east  at the foot hill of Brahmagiri Hills, without Rajagopuram with a huge Q complex made of shed. Rishabam is in a separate mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, artha mandapam and a maha  mandapam. Dwarf  reliefs playing instruments can be seen at the entrance of sanctum pilasters.

ARCHITECTURE
The mandapam looks awesome viewed from bottom. The most attractive part of this temple is the presence of 3 Lingas each representing Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. All three resides in a hallow space within the avudayar. It was believed that water is oozing  from Shiva. The reliefs of simham  and elephants at the adhistanam can be seen on the Vimanam. 

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS 
The temple was built by Shri Nanasaheb Peshwa in 1755 -1786 CE. ( But as per the tablet installed at the VIP entrance gate says that the temple was renovated during the year 1740-1761 CE bt Peshwa Balaji Bajirao ). Again the temple was renovated during the year 1789 CE.

It is built with black stone and Shiva Lingam is said to be emerged naturally. The temple’s compound wall is 20-25 feet high stone wall. 

LEGENDS
It is believed that River ganga starts from the sacred pond called “Kushavarta” and called as Godavari.

DAY -5, 06-02-2016.
We started our yathra from Shirdi to Panchavati. Nashik and Panchavati temple are very much related to Epic Ramayan. Especially the episode of Lakshmanan cut the nose of Surpanakha, the sister of Ravana. Hence this place is called as Nashik ( In Sanskrit Nasi means – nose ). Hired an auto  ( 4 persons in an auto ) and  the autowala took us the sites related to Epic Ramayana. The sites covered are…

SRI LAKSHMI NARAYAN TEMPLE and the temple has a kosala and seems to be of recent century construction.




DHABOVAN. We had seen the sculptures of Lakshman cutting the nose of Surpanakha in stone as well as in sudhai.

RAMAR KUDIL. This site is believed that Ramar & Seetha stayed here. This is house like construction with mangalore tiles. Parnasala- where Ravana came as beggar asking for picksha and took captivity of Seetha.

HANUMAN TEMPLE–  The moolavar Anjaneyar is more than 8 feet and swayambhu. It was told that the Murti is of 5000 years old.


LAKSHMAN REKHA  
PANCHAVATI – 5 banyan trees with a cave shrine for seetha. It was believed that Sita stayed in this cave for day during their exile /vanavasam.
 




PANCHAVATI BLACK RAMAR TEMPLE. The temple was constructed in a grand manner with excellent architecture and looks beautiful. It was believed that Ramar’s colour was changed to black due to curse. The moolavar Ramar, Seetha and Lakshman are in black sand and Swayambhu.  The temple has sanctum, Artha mandapam and a mandapam.  The temple has sannadhi for Ganesh, Shiva. Ramar lived here for about 2.5 years during his exile of 14 years.  The King Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj visited daily to this temple during his reign 1620 to 1632. The first wooden temple was reconstructed during 15th century. Latter the Temple was reconstructed by late Sri Sardar Ranga Rao odhekar, under the consultation of Late Sawai Madhavrao Peshwa  during 1792 at a cost of Rs 23 Lakhs.  The temple is  kept open for darshan between 05.00 Hrs to 22.00 Hrs.


KAPALESHWAR TEMPLE – The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva without Nandi and it was believed that Nandhi is Guru for Shiva, hence Nandhi is not sitting in front.



RAM KUND - This is one of the Kumbh mela sthalam in India. It is a Triveni sangama place as River Godavari + River Aruna + River varuna joined in this place. Sri Ramar had taken bath in the triveni Sangama. It is believed that past sins will get washed away if we take a holy dip in this triveni sangama.
