Sri Amirtha Narayana Perumal Temple, Thirukadaiyur, Mayiladuthurai District, Tamil Nadu.

 13th March 2017.

After Darshan of Sri Amirthakadeswarar at Thirukadaiyur, happened to see a sign board about this Perumal temple on the same Street. The name induces more curiosity to visit this temple. The temple is facing east and in dilapidated condition. Moolavar sannadhi is in the process of renovation. This is a Chozha period brick temple..

Moolavar Sri Amirtha Narayana Perumal is in sitting posture with Sridevi and Bhoodevi are on both sides. Thayar Amruthavalli is Also in sitting posture. The temple is under palalayam and reconstruction is in progress.

As per the legend the Amitha in kalasams was handed over to Shiva. Also Thirunal garlanded with armament to Shiva. These armaments changed to Sri  Abirami. After this Perumal Stayed here to bless his devotees.

Since temple is under renovation Pattar does the one kala pooja and moorthams are kept in a shed.

Sri Bharadwajeswarar Temple / Sri Valeeswaram, Puliyur, Kodambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

11th March 2017.
This shiva temple is in Puliyur,  one of the 24  kottams or division of Thondai mandalam ( Puliyur kottam was in and around Chennai ) of Chozha period. This is a Pallava Period Shiva temple. But the temple was completely modified and could not see any Pallava period old structure and inscriptions.

Some of the important features of this temple are….
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram on the south Side ( constructed during 2015 ). Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Rishabam are on the east side. The Sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha mandapam and a maha mandapam. In koshtam, Dakshinamurthy, Vishnu, Brahma and Vishnu.

In the prakaram sannadhi for Alangara mandapam ( Somaskandar was kept ), Bhaktha ganapathy, Sri Valli Devasena Vedha Subramaniyar, Ramanathar, Chandikeswarar, Bairavar, Navagrahas, Yaga salai, Manimandapam, Bharadwajeswarar, Vaali, Dwajarosana 4 pillar mandapam, Siva Suriyan and saptha mathas ( in a single panel ). On the compound wall 8 ( ashta Thikku balakars reliefs in yanthra form ) and stucco images of Rambai, Thilothamai, usha, Sundari, Kanchana, Srividya and Kamavardhini.

In sanctum Moolavar Sri Bharat Vajeswarar and the entrance is small. Ambal is facing east and Natarajar &  Nalvars are in artha mandapam. Since Maharishi Bharadwajeswarar installed this Shiva Linga, moolavar is called as Sri Bharadwajeswarar.  

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple  belongs to 10th to 11th Century Chozha period. This Place Puliyur maintains its name since Chozha period. As per the inscriptions this place was called as Jayangond Chozha mandalathu, Puliyur Kottathu Puliyur. Puliyur was the Capital of Puliyur Kottam during Chozha period. ( Ref: சென்னை மாநகர் கல்வெட்டுக்கள், Tamil Nadu Archaeological Dept  )

The 1259(?) CE, Sri VijayakaNda Gopla Devar's 29th reign inscription records the endowment of burning a sandhi lamp by Verkadu Thillaikoothan Ponnapillai to this Jayangonda Chozha mandalathu Puliyur kottam alias Kulothunga Valanattu Puliyur Nattu Puliyur Thiruvali Koiludaiya Nayanar, for which 2 numbers of sava moova Cows are gifted to temple Nimanthakarars ( authorities ).

Another 17th to 18th Century damaged inscription is on the floor of Vinayagar Temple. The words like Thari vida, paththu, muppathavathu etc. Couldn't get full details.  

A 13th Century Telugu Chozha, Pothappi Chozhas inscription  is on the north wall of main sanctum Sanctorum is damaged and couldnt figure out any details. 
  
The temple was reconstructed during the beginning of 21st Century. 

LEGENDS
Valli worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple and temple is called as Valeeswararm. Sri Ramar and Seetha also worshiped Lord Shiva of this temple.

Sri Mallikeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ மல்லிகேஸ்வரர் கோயில், Ashok Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

During my stay at Jafferkhanpet, a part of Ashok Nagar, I used to Visit this temple regularly. After a long gap, again on 11th March 2017, had been to this temple. The temple had undergone  many changes, which includes construction of Rajagopuram and tiling of floor. This temple escaped from demolition of Ashok Nagar Metro station, whose east side entrance is very close to the temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are..
The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Artha mandapam and muka mandapam. Nandhi and balipeedam are in the mukha mandapam. In Koshtam, Veerabhadra, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Vishnu, Brahma, Saraswathy, Mahalakshmi and Durgai. The sanctum is in a rectangular shape. Sri Mallikeswarar is at the center, Sri Sakthi Ganapathy is on the right and Sri Visalakshi Samedha Sri Viswanathar ( in the same sanctum ) is on the right. Sri Maheswari is facing south.

In the parakaram sannadhi for Chandikeswarar, Navagrahas, Stucco images of Natarajar, Saneeswarar, Bairavar, Bhakatha Jaya Anjaneyar ( I was told that the Anjaneyar was installed by Sri Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal ), Ramar, Sathya Narayanar, Chandran and Suriyan.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was told that Sri Thopa Swamigal, a siddhar  stayed here and done pooja to Sri Mallikeswarar about 400 years before. His jeeva Samadhi is at Saidapet, near Vellore.

To prove it’s antiquity, the roof  of the sanctum was built with granite stone. Completely modified during the present renovation and tiles were laid on the walls and floors and kumbhabhishekam was performed during 2016.

Sri Anjaneyar Temple, Ashok Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Being  a second Saturday on 11th March 2017, thought of visiting the Ashok Nagar Temples. When I was in  Ashok Nagar visited this temple many times. Since this temple is  are about 10 KM from my residence at west Velachery went through my scooter.  Many celebrities from film industry used to visit this temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are..
The temple is facing east with a sanctum and a front meta colour sheet mandapam. There are sannadhis for Vinayagar, Bharatha Matha and Gomatha with her calf.

Kumbhabhishekam was performed during 2000 and 2012. The temple might have constructed during formation of Ashok Nagar.

The Anjaneya bhaktha Group is doing many social services, which includes running Gurukula school, Blood Donation, Annathanam, Issuing of Books, Notebooks, Uniforms for school children, Yoga, Sewing machine classes for  Ladies, Medical camps, etc.

The temple will be kept open between 05.00 Hrs to 11.15 Hrs and 16.30 Hrs to 20.15 Hrs.

Wallajah Big Mosque, Triplicane, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

05th March 2017.
As part of Triplicane Heritage walk Visited this mosque. The mosque was constructed in a sprawling area  with a large open space in front.  Even though it was claimed that this was constructed during Tippu Sultan Period (1750 to 1799), as per the records available the mosque was built during 1795 by the Muhammad Ali Khan Wallajah, the Nawab of Arcot. He is very friendly with Hindus. He appointed a Hindu as a Chief personal secretary. A chronogram in Persian language is written by Raja Makhan Lal Bahadur Khirat, the Hindu Munshi of the Nawab, is available at the entrance of the Prayer Hall.  The Mosque is being maintained by the Prince of Arcot Endowments Trust.  It was learnt that Hindus are also in the trust, which has to be verified.


The Mosque has a large Pray hall, built with granite stone in Mughal Architectural style with two minaret of 131 ( 40 Meters ) feet high.

There is a dharga on the right of the mosque in the name Hasrath Malikum Ulma Bahrul Ulum.  He was a saint who lived 300 years before and his body was buried here.  It was told that speech related ailments will get cured if any body comes to this Dargah and pray. Pigeons in large numbers are the visitors of this Mosque apart from Visitors and Muslims from Various parts of the country.

திருவல்லிக்கேனிமரபு நடை……
திப்பு சுல்தான் ( 1750 – 1799 CE ) காலத்தில் கட்டப்பட்ட மசூதி என்றாலும் அதற்கான ஆதாரம் எதுவும் இல்லை. ஆற்காடு முகமது அலிகான் வாலாஜா என்பவரால் 1795 ல் கட்டப்பட்டது. சித்தரின் சமாதியுடன் கூடிய தர்கா  மசூதியின் வலப்புரம். மசூதியின் வெளிப்புறம் மட்டும் ஒருவர் சுற்றிக்காட்டினார். ஆண்கள் மட்டுமே உள்ளே அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டனர். ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சி நடந்து கொண்டு இருந்ததால் பெண்கள் பார்வையிட அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை.

Mahakavi Subramaniya Bharathi Illam, Triplicane, Chennai, Tamil Nadu

Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi was born in the year 1882 CE at Ettayapuram in Tirunelveli District in Tamil Nadu and his original name was Subramaniyan. He had his education at Tirunelveli and Varanasi. He learned music at the age of 11 and learned to write Poetry. He was conferred with the title of Bharati. He was a multifaceted personality as a poet, as a Journalist and as a Freedom fighter,  He worked in may journals and the important one is Swadesamitran and Karmayogi.


He was an active member of Indian National Congress. He was issued an arrest warrant in the year 1908 by the British Govt., so he moved to Pondicherry, where he lived till 1918. After that he lived in  Triplicane, Chennai close to  Parthasarathy Temple. Everyday he used feed the temple elephant after worshiping Sri Parthasarathy. One day he was attacked by the elephant badly.  Even though he survived from the incident, but he died in the year 1921 at the age of 38.

Tamil Nadu Government bought the house in the year 1990,   from the owner and converted it,  in to a permanent museum in the year 1993, The Museum displays his works, photos with eminent personalities to whom he was associated.  The house was named as “Bharathi illam”, which is situated at No:75, Thulasinga Perumal Koil Street, Triplicane.

Azhagiya Singar Temple / Thulasinga Perumal Temple, Triplicane / Thiruvallikeni, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

05th March 2017.
Even though I had been to this temple earlier, this visit is a part of Triplicane Heritage walk, to learn about historical point of view.  


Moolavar   : Sri Yoga Narasimhar or Thulasinga Perumal, 
                  Azhagiya Singar

The temple is facing West with a separate 3 tier Rajagopuram. Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and Garudalwar Sannadhi are immediately after the Rajagopuram. In Sanctum Urchavar is with Sridevi and Bhoodevi. The Sanctum is just back side and Part of the Sri Parthasarathy Temple outer prakaram.

The temple kept open between 07.00 Hrs to 12.30 Hrs and 16.00 Hrs to 21.00 Hrs
