Sri Amirtha Narayana Perumal Temple/ ஸ்ரீ அமிர்த நாராயண பெருமள் கோயில், Thirukadaiyur, Mayiladuthurai District, Tamil Nadu.

After Darshan of Sri Amirthakadeswarar at Thirukadaiyur, I happened to see a signboard about this Perumal temple on the same street. The name induces more curiosity to visit this temple. The temple faces east and is in a dilapidated condition. Moolavar sannadhi is in the process of reconstruction. This post is updated with more details and the latest photographs after my visit on the 5th March 2026.

Moolavar    : Sri Amirtha Narayana Perumal

Thayar Amruthavalli is in a separate temple that faces east on the right side of the main temple. Thayar is in a sitting posture with abhaya varda hastam.

ARCHITECTURE
The total temple was reconstructed with brick, lime mortar, and cement concrete (open mukha mandapam). The temple consists of the sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam, and an open mukha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada bandha adhistanam with jagathy, threepatta kumudam, and pattikai. The bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are of brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palakai, and pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam with nasikudus. A two-tier vimanam with greevam and vesara sigaram is on the bhumi desam. Stucco images of Maha Vishnu's various forms are on the tala and greeva koshtams.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The original temple belongs to 10th to 11th centuries. The same was reconstructed with bricks and lime mortar in recent years.

LEGENDS
As per the legend, the Amitha in Kalasams was handed over to Shiva. Also, Thirunal garlanded with armament to Shiva. These armaments changed to Sri  Abirami. After this, Perumal stayed here to bless his devotees.
