Sri Vibhutheeswarar Temple / Sri Sugantha Kunthalambal Sametha Sri Vibootheswarar Temple, Venmanambudur / வெண்மனம்புதூர், Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu

The visit to this Sri Vibhutheeswarar Temple at Vemanambudur, was a part of “Ashta Siddhi Temples” visit, located between Kosasthalaiyar and Koovam rivers, on the north side of Perambakkam. Apart from Shiva temples, on the way visited Perumal temples also.

Some of the salient features of this temple are....
The temple is facing east with an entrance from South side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are on the east side. Stucco image of Lord Shiva and Parvati are on the top of east side entrance. Moolavar is on a square avudayar. In Koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.

In praharam Vinayagar, Anjaneyar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Ayyappan, Navagrahas. 
 

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum Sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The old temple was reconstructed during recent years on a upanam without following the temple architecture. An eka thala vesra vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the greeva koshtam. Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing south, with a vesara vimanam.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It is believed that the original temple was built during Pallava period and latter received contributions from Chozhas. Since the original temple was dilapidated and the same was reconstructed completely with brick during recent years.

As per the Annual report 1944-45, Sl nos 23-24, This village was gifted to this temple as Sarvamanyam by the Idangai community and tax on the gifted lands are exempted.

In another 8th Century inscription records the gift of Gold to this temple by Avaduuraiyan Bhuvanakadan ( Ashta Siddhi temples by Sai Kumar ).
Bukkan-I’s period ( 1344 – 1357 CE ) inscription records the gift of Villages as Sarvamanyam.

மெலிந்து அங்கு இருந்திடும் வெல்ல ஒண்ணாதே.

With this siddhi, one can reduce the size of the body like cotton. By worshiping Sri Agastheeswarar now called as Vibhutheeswarar of this temple at Venmanambuthur ( a Tamil Name of Sanskrit name of Vibhutheeswaram ), one can obtain this Anima siddhi.

Sri Gangatheeswarar Temple, Eswaran Kovil / ஈஸ்வரன் கோவில், Pudumavilangai/ புதுமாவிலங்கை, Tiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu.

The visit to this Sri Gangadeeswarar Temple at Pudumavilangai, was a part of “Ashta Siddhi Temples” visit, located between Kosasthalaiyar and Koovam rivers, on the north side of Perambakkam. Apart from Shiva temples, on the way visited Perumal temples also.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple facing east with a 2 tier Rajagopuram is on the south side. Stucco images of Somaskandar, Shiva and Parvati as Chandrasekar, Urdhva thandavar, Veena Dakshinamurthy are on the  Rajagopuram. Entrance to the maha mandapam is from the south ie opposite to Ambal. The entrance is with a open mukha mandapam and Stucco image of Ambal is on the top. Shri Shiva and Parvati’s kalyana kola stucco image of on the top of the mandapam on the left side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are on the east side. A Hole is provided on the wall opposite to Rshabam’s face. Stucco image of Shiva with Parvati as rishabaroodar, Shri Shiva’s family in Kailash, Ambal worshiping a Shiva Lingam, Vinayagar and Murugan are on the top of the east side parapet wall.

In Koshtam, Narthana Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.  In Prakaram, Vinayagar as Maha Ganapati,  Sri Devi & Bhudevi sametha Pandurangan, Sri Valli DevaSena Subramaniar Chandikeswarar, Saptha Kannis ( Pattarika Kannika, Deva Kannika, Padma Kannika, Sindhu Kannika, Agaja Kannika, Vana Kannika, Sumati Kannika, both in stone and Stucco. Rishabam and Elephant are in front ), Nagars  and Bairavar.


ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, ardha mandapam and  maha mandapam. The adhistanam is of simple pada bandha adhistanam with Jagathy, 3 patta kumudam and Pattigai. The bhitti starts with vedika. The pilaster are Brahmakantha pilaster with malai thongal, thamarai kattu, kalasam, thadi, kudam, mandi, palagai, veerakandam and vettu pothyal.

The Koshta are supported with ½ brahma kantha pilasters. The Makara thoranas above the koshtas are with the bas-reliefs of Krishna, Sri Rama with Sita and Lakshmana. The prastaram consists of lotus petals valapi, kapotam with nasi kudus. An ekathala Nagara vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. The Stucco images of Shri Shiva with Parvati, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the Greeva Koshtam. Maha Nasis are on the cardinal directions of Sigaram. Kodi karukku is on the 4 corners of Sigaram.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
This one of the Shiva Temples built during Chozha period maintains the original structure without much modifications. Later extensions were done by the Vijayanagaras.  

It is believed that the pilasters and pillars are brought from a dilapidated Perumal temple of the same Village about 150 years before. The Makara Thorana of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana may belongs Pandurangan Temple of the dilapidated Perumal Temple.
Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in the year 2018.

The visit to this Sri Kumbeswarar Temple Temple at Chitrambakkam, was a part of “Ashta Siddhi Temples” visit, located between Kosasthalaiyar and Koovam rivers, on the north side of Perambakkam. Shiva of this temple was also called as Ishta Siddhi Lingeswarar. Apart from Shiva temples, on the way visited Perumal temples also.

Some of the salient features of this temple are...
The temple is facing east with an entrance from South side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in front of the mukha mandapam.  Vinayagar is on the left side of the sanctum sanctorum entrance. Moolavar is short on a raised avudayar. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

In praharam, Vinaitheerkum Vinayagar, Lakshmi Narayanar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Chandikeswarar, A Shiva Linga with square avudayar, Navagrahas, Kala Bairavar and  Pallava period flat, square inscriptions stone. Ambal is in a separate sannidhi facing south, in standing posture with abhaya and varada hastam. 

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, ardha mandapam and a open mukha mandapam.  The bhittis is supported with brahma kantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palagai. The prastaram consists of valapi and  kapotam with nasis. A two tier nagara vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. There is no images in the 1st level koshtam. Stucco Murtis are in greevam. Maha nasis are on the 4 cardinal directions of sigaram. Kodi karukku works are on the 4 corners of the sigaram.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The temple was reconstructed during recent years completely with bricks and cement.  A 29 inches square stone slab with a lotus medallion at the centre and 6 lines inscription is lying at the entrance of the temple. This stone inscriptions was used as a stepping stone in front of Selli Amman temple, just back side of this Shiva temple. This inscriptions belongs to 7th Century Pallava Period. The inscription records  the construction of a Temple. After Pallava’s rock cut cave temples, it is believed that this is the earliest inscription found about the construction of a temple. Which means, the construction of temples might have been started in the 7th Century itself in Tamil Nadu. ( Mrs Padma Priya, of Alayam Kanden ). The inscription reads as...

As per the inscription Somasiyar’s son-in-law Kumaran of Alavayal, constructed the temple. This Place Chitrambakkam was called as Thenkaranai. Thenkaranai may also be called as Alavayal. Experts may comment on this. The temple / Koyil which is mentioned in the inscription is not known.

The visit to this Sri Ashta ( Ishta) Siddhi Lingeswarar Temple Temple at Perambakkam, was a part of “Ashta Siddhi Temples”, visit, located between Kosasthalaiyar and Koovam rivers, on the north side of Perambakkam. Apart from Shiva temples, on the way visited Perumal temples also.

Some of the salient features of this temple are..
The temple is facing east with a gate. An entrance gate with arch is on the south side. Stucco image of Shiva, Pavati ( Murugan is seated on Parvati’s lap ), Vinayagar  in seated posture on the entrance arch. Balipeedam and Rishabam are in the Mukha mandapam. Moolavar in the sanctum seems to be old. Durgai is only in the koshtam.

In corridor, Vinayagar, Sri Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Ambal facing South, Bairavar and Navagrahas.

It is believed that worshiping of Lord Shiva on 3 consecutive 3 Mondays, will get 16 mangala / auspicious things in the life.
