Moolavar Sri Viswanathar is on the jeeva Samadhi of Sri Appar
Swamigal. Appar Swamigal is a siddhar who lived during the 19th century
in the British period. He attained Jeeva Samadhi in the year 1851 CE, and his disciple, Chidambaram Swamigal, built this temple in the year 1853 CE. There is an
interesting story of Sri Appar Swamigal. An Englishman obstructs the way for
Appar Swamigal’s worship of Lord Shiva. The Englishman went back to London and
was attacked by paralysis. Returned to India and begged Sri Apparswamikal’s
mercy. Swamigal asked him for a place to attain Samadhi. The Englishman granted
him land, and he was cured.
