The
visit to this temple was a part of the Hoysala period built Vishnu and Shiva
Temples in Karnataka near Mandya and Mysuru/Mysore. After visiting Sri Someswara
Temple, had went to this temple.
Presiding
deity: Sri Anantha Padmanabha
Some
of the salient features of this temple are….
The
temple is facing east with a Garuda Gamba. Once this temple was in dilapidated
condition was restored by the Archaeological Department. The entrance porch is
supported by 2 nos of lathe-turned Hoysala pillars. The sanctum sanctorum is of
an ekakuta dravida vimana temple built
on a 1.5 feet high Jagati. It has rectangular garbhagriha, sukhanasi and
Navaranga and mukha mantapam.
The
deity Sri Anantha Padmanabha is standing in Samabhanga on a pedestal. It is a
fine example of Hoysala art The pillars in the Navrang are lathe-turned ones
with capitals. On the outer walls, ornamentation is restricted only to the
architectural features. It is believed that this temple was built during
Hoysala King Narasimha-III period.
INSCRIPTION:
The
1276 CE inscriptions records grants to the temple.
