The
Visit to this more than 150 Years old Vara Siddhi Vinayagar Temple at
Aminjikarai was a part of the “Shiva, Vishnu, Amman and Siddhar Jeeva Samadhi
Temples Visit” – in Aminjikarai and Perambur on 09th October 2022.
This temple was constructed just opposite Sri Ekambareswarar Temple.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are...
The
temple faces west and is just opposite Sri Ekambareswarar Temple. The
Vinayagar is in a sitting posture. The upper hands are holding pasa Angusam.
Lower hands are holding a broken tusk and a fruit.
ARCHITECTURE
The
temple was reconstructed completely with bricks. The Temple consists of a
Sanctum and Sanctorum with a mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a pada
bandha adhistanam with jagathy and 3 patta Kumudam. A three-tier stucco nagara
Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. Stucco images of Vinayagar’s various forms
are on the Vimana tala koshtas and Greeva Kostas.
HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTIONS
The
street itself named after this Vinayagar as VV Kovil Street ( வரசித்தி விநாயகர் கோவில் தெரு
). The temple has existed for more
than 350 years and may have been built along with, Sri Ekambareswarar Temple, by Sengalvarayan Mudaliar. Latter-period inscription in
the old mandapam records that this temple was built ( re-built…? ) by K.
Sambasiva Pillai in the year 1923. Later in 2001, the
present mandapam and Vimanam were built.
LEGENDS
Even
though many Leelas, and Miracles are done by
Vinayagar at various places and at various times, this temple is not associated
with any particular legend. It is
believed that Sri Vinayagar will bless his devotees with boons, who pray with
devotion. Hence Vinayagar is called as Vara Siddhi Vinayagar.
POOJAS AND
CELEBRATIONS
Apart
from Oru kala pooja, special poojas are conducted on monthly Sankata Hara
Chathurti and Vinayagar Chathurti.

Since Oru kala pooja is conducted the opening and closing times are unpredictable.
