Arulmigu Jurahareswarar Temple, Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

This is also one of the lesser known temples of Kanchipuram. This temple is  dedicated to Lord Shiva.

காஞ்சிபுரம், ஏகாம்பரநாதர் சன்னதி தெருவில் இருக்கும் சுரகேஸ்வரர் கோயில், கல்வெட்டுகளில் சுர வட்டாரமுடைய நாயனார் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. சுரம் நீங்க இக்கோயில் இறைவனை வழிபடுவர். இக்கோயில் அமைப்பை போன்று தமிழ் நாட்டில் வேறு எங்கும் காணமுடியாது. பல்வேறு அழகிய சிற்பங்களை உடையது.

The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum is 3 steps below the ground level. Balipeedam and Rishabam mandapam are in front. The entrance to the sanctum is from sides. 

ARCHITECTURE

The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum and artha mandapam. The sanctum is of elliptical shape on a padma pedam. The  2 tier brick vimana is also in elliptical shape with three kalasa. Stucco images of various forms Shiva are on the Vimana. The sanctum has the niches, but with out any koshta moorthams.

The architecture of the temple is worth to see. There are three exquisite crafted windows on the sides of sanctum sanctorum. Sanga nidhi and Padmanidhi are at the entrance of artha mandapam. The temple is under the control of ASI ( Archaeological Survey of India ). It was told that the temple was located as per the agama.

HISTORY & INSCRIPTIONS

As per the inscriptions of  Vikrama Chozha, it may be presumed that the temple exists before his rule and built by Chozhas.  The temple is also referred as “Suravattaramudaiya Nayanar”.

LEGENDS

It is believed that fever related ailments will get cured if one worships lord Shiva of this temple.

Sri Kachabeswarar Temple / ஸ்ரீ கச்சபேஸ்வரர் கோயில், காஞ்சிபுரம் / Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

This is one of the 1000 and odd temples of Kanchipuram. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva,  also called as Kachaalai Udaiya Nayanar as per the inscriptions.

Moolavar    : Sri Kachabeswarar.

Consort      : Sri Sundarambigai

Some of the important details are…

The temple is facing east with an entrance through a 5 tier ( may  be built is 13^th century ) Rajagopuram on north side. Temple tank is on the right inside the complex.  Balipeedam, Dwajasthambam and Rishabam are in front of main sanctum sanctorum. There is  also a 5 tier Rajagopuram at the entrance of  sanctum sanctorum.

In the inner prakaram sannadhi for Nalvar, 63var, Nandhikeswarar, Chandrasekar, Polla Pillayar, Murugan, Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Saraswathy, Navagrahas, Bairavar, Vishnu, Urchavars.

In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai. Moolavar is of sandstone  ( Prithvi Lingam ) and Somaskandar panel is on the back wall of moolavar.

In the 2^nd outer prakaram sannidhis for Yoga Siddheshwar, Gana siddheshwar, Sathurmukeswarar, Natarajar and Valli Devasena Subramaniar. 

In the 3^rd Prakaram  Ayyanar with Poornambika and Pushkala as Dharmasatha,  Lingabeswarar, Sathurpukeswarar, Sthala vruksham murukadi, Naagars under Peepal tree ( a Hero stone too ?... ), Ishta sidheswaran, Pancha sakthi Vinayagar, Durgai Amman Sannadhi, Bairavar and  Suryan ( rebuilt shrine with sand stone and granite stones with inscriptions ).

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

Inscriptions  belongs to 10 – 11^th century  are available in Durgai Amman sannadhi, Suryan sannadhi and main sanctum speaks about various  donations given by Chozhas to this temple.  Even-though the temple was built  by Chozhas, latter renovated with mandapams during Vijayanagara Period.

Velliangiri Andavar Temple / வெள்ளியங்கிரி ஆண்டவர் கோயில் / “THEN KAILAYAM” - Velliangiri Hills, Poondi in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. TREKKING.2018

01^st April 2018

It was planned to trek Velliangiri hills this year before Chitra pournami ( Chithirai month’s Full moon day ) on 30^th Night March 2018. Two first timers are also joined with us this year. We used to start our trekking around mid night, but this year it was delayed by two hours  due to delay of the train. We could reach Coimbatore around 23.45 hrs and hired a Taxi ( Rs 750 .00 ) and reached Poondi the base of the Hill around 02.00 hrs. After completing forest authorities check, we started our trekking.  in spite of the we could notice plastic wastes scattered on the hill. This my be due to non checking throughout the day and allowing shops to function on the hills. I could manage to trek with out torchlight up to 2^nd hill and after that the moon light diminished due to dense forest. Could able to watch both moon set  and sun rise from 7^th hill.  Due to speed of walking we got separated and reached the  top  of the 7^th hill around 07.30 hrs and had the darshan of Sri Velliangiri Andavar.  

OM SHIVAYA NAMAHA.

 

Due to heavy rush  we are advised not to stay on the top, so we  started to climb down slowly. The fine powder of soil made us difficult to climb down and many people surfed and rolled down.  Thought of reaching the 3^rd hill before 10.00 hrs to escape from the hot sun, but could not do so due to tiredness. Since the start time was delayed and this climbing down also got delayed. Had my breakfast on the 5^th hill and had butter milk on the way.  The hot sun, the knee and angle pain  delayed further to reach the base of the hill. It took almost  2 hours to climb down the first hill from Vellai Pillayar Temple, which took only an hour to climb up. As the tiredness increased it makes us to feel that the steps to climb down also increasing like a hanuman’s tail. Finally I could reach the base around 15.00 hrs. After Thanking Lord Shiva for the peaceful darshan and safe journey/ trekking, left to Chennai.

Some important tips.

*Advised to carry two litres of water, food for two times,  some fruits, -   some sweets like orange mittai.

*Torch light is essential.

*Mobile phones will work only in the first and 7^th hill.

*Advised to carry the  regular use tablets.

*From this year on-wards ladies and third gender of all age  groups are    allowed to trek.

*Allowed to trek from Maha Shivaratri to May 31^st. Apart from this   every Pournami and Amavasai ( Full moon and No moon days )  also   allowed to trek. 

*Advised not to carry any plastic and polythene bags.

இந்த வருட தென் கயிலாயம் எனும் வெள்ளியங்கிரி யாத்திரை முன்பே தீர்மானித்தபடி, இரண்டு புதிய அன்பர்களுடன் 2018, மார்ச் மாதம் 30ந்தேதி இரவு மேற்க்கொண்டோம். அன்று பங்குனி உத்திரத்துடன் பெளர்ணமி வேறு சேர்ந்து எங்களுடைய யாத்திரை சிறப்பானதாக்கியது. இரயில்  இரண்டு மணி நேரம் காலதாமதமாக சென்னையில் இருந்து  கிளம்பியதால் திட்டமிட்டபடி பூண்டியில் இருந்து இரவு 12 மணிக்கு  பதிலாக இரவு 2 மணிக்குத்தான் மலையேற்றத்தை தொடங்க முடிந்தது. வன அலுவலர்களால் சோதனை இடப்பட்டு பின்பு அனுமதிக்கப்பட்டோம். ஆனாலும் மலையின் மீது ஆங்கங்கே பிளாஸ்டிக் கழிவுகளும் பாலிதீன் பைகளும் குப்பைகளாக கண்களை உறுத்தியது. முழுநேரமும் சோதனை இடாதது, மலை மீது கடைகளை அனுமதித்தது தான் இதற்கு மூல காரணங்களே.. நிலவு வெளிச்சத்தில் இரண்டு மலைகளை டார்ச்லைட் உதவி இன்றி ஏற முடிந்தது.. ஒவ்வொறுவரின் ஏறும் சக்தியின் காரணமாக தனி தனியாக பிரிய நேர்ந்தது. கிளம்புவதில் ஏற்ப்பட்ட காலதாமதம் 7வது மலையை அடைவதிலும் தொடர்ந்தது. 7வது மலை ஏறும் போதே சந்திரனின் மறைவையும் சூரியனின் உதயத்தையும் கண்டது ஒரு மகிழ்ச்சியான அனுபவம், அதுவும் ஒரே இடத்தில் இருந்து. சுமார் 7.30 மணி அளவில் வெள்ளங்கிரி ஆன்டவரின் தரிசனம் கிடைக்கப்பெற்றோம். நாங்கள் சென்ற வேளையில் தான் காலை பூஜைகள் நடக்க ஆரம்பித்தது. மிக நல்ல சுகமான தரிசனம். ஓம் சிவாய நமக.. 

கூட்டம் அதிகமாக இருந்ததனால் தரிசனம் முடிந்த பின்பு மலையில் இருந்து கீழே இறங்கி விட அறிவுறுத்தப்பட்டோம். மெதுவாக கீழே இறங்க ஆரம்பித்தோம். கீழ் இறங்கும் பாதை செங்குத்தாகவும், மண் பவுடர் போல மிருதுவாக இருந்த்தால் கவனத்துடன் இறங்கினோம்.. அப்படியும் சிலர் வழுக்கி / சறுக்கி விழ நேர்ந்தது. காலை சிற்றுண்டி சாப்பிட்ட பின்பு 10 மணிக்குள் மூன்றாவது மலையை அடைந்து விட்டால் சூரியனின்  வெப்ப கதிர்களில் இருந்து தப்பித்துக் கொள்ளலாம் என நினைத்து  வேகமாக நடக்க முயற்ச்சி செய்தோம். களைப்பு, முழங்கால், கனுக்கால்,  பாதம் ஆகியவற்றில் ஏற்பட்ட வலி போன்ற காரணங்களால் கீழே இறங்குவது சுலபமாக இருக்கவில்லை. ஒரு மணி நேரத்தில் ஏறிய முதல் மலை, இறங்குவதற்க்கு மேலும் ஒரு மணி நேரம் அதிகமாகப் பிடித்தது. களைப்பு, சோர்வு, தூக்கமின்மை, படிகள் அனுமன் வால் போல நீண்டு கொண்டே இருப்பது போன்ற மாயத்தோற்றத்தை உண்டாக்கியது. வயது ஆகிவிட்டதை நன்றாகவே உணர முடிந்தது. ஒருவழியாக சுமார் மூன்று மணி அளவில் மலையின் அடிவாரம் பூண்டி கோவிலை அடைந்தோம். எங்களுக்கு தரிசனம் அளித்து, எங்களின் பாதுகாப்புக்காக எங்களுடன் பயணித்த எந்தைக்கு நன்றி கூறி சென்னைக்கு கிளம்பினோம்.

• வெள்ளியங்கிரி மலையேற்றம் மகா சிவ ராத்திரியில் இருந்து மே மாதம் 31ந்தேதி வரை அனுமதிக்கப்படுகின்றது.
• மற்ற சமயங்களில் அம்மாவாசை பவுர்ணமி தினங்களில் மட்டுமே அனுமதிக்கப்படுகின்றது.
• ஆண்கள், பெண்கள், திருநங்கைகள் வயது வித்யாசம் இன்றி அனுமதிக்கப் படுகின்றனர் ( கடந்த வருடம் வரை பெண்கள் மலை ஏற அனுமதிக்கப்படவில்லை)
• குறைந்தது இரண்டு லிட்டர் தண்ணீரும், இரண்டு வேளை சாப்பாடும் எடுத்துச்செல்வது மிகவும் நலம்.
• ஆரஞ்சு மிட்டாய், பிஸ்கட் தேவைப்படும் எனில் எடுத்துச் செல்லலாம்.
• டார்ச் லைட் மிக மிக அவசியம்.
• முதல் மலையிலும் கடைசி மலையிலும் மட்டும் கைபேசி வேலை செய்ய வாய்ப்பு உள்ளது.
• பிளாஸ்டிக், பாலிதீன் பை போன்ற பொருள்களை எடுத்துச் செல்ல வேண்டாம் என்று அறிவுறுத்தப் படுகின்றார்கள்.

Pandava Thootha Perumal temple, Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

Sri Pandava Thootha Perumal Temple at Kanchipuram ( Padagam – Periya Kanchi )  is one of the 108 Divya Desam. This Perumal has the mangalasasanam of Bhoothathalvar, Pei Alwar, Thirumangai alwar and Thirumazhisai alwar.

Some of the important details are as follows...

The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram ( built during Vijayanagara Period ) on the south. Dwajasthambam, Palipedam and Garudalwar are in front of main sanctum sanctorum.  Moolavar is big & tall in size of about 25 feet high made of stucco. The Perumal is in sitting posture with his left leg down and right leg in folded position. The hands are in abhaya and varada hastam.

ARCHITECTURE

The Vimana is of Bhadra Vimana and the sanctum has a big space to accommodate the huge size of Perumal. The sanctum has both bhoothavari and yazhi vari like Shiva temples. The front Mandapam was built during Chozha period.  Sannadhi for Sri Rukmani Thayar and Sudarshan Chakra ( Yoga Narasimhar is on the back) are in the prakaram. Urchavars and images of  Alwars  are kept in artha mandapam. I was told that in that Urchava murtis,  one special murti is  for Yagnamurthy,   who lost in debate with Sri Ramanujacharya and latter became the student of Sri Ramanujar and called  as Arulala Perumal emperumanar.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

There are inscriptions on the south and north walls of the sanctum belongs to Kulothunga Chozha –I, and Rajadhiraja – II ( 1167 CE ), which speaks about donation of  32 cows for burning of Lamps and loan given for land at an interest rate of one paisa.

LEGENDS

As per the legend Lord Vishnu as Krishna went to Kauravas  as a messenger  to get the share of the Kingdom  for Pandavas. Duryodhana built a false throne made of bamboo and kept  wrestlers under the throne with false flooring to kill Krishna. When Krishna  took the Viswaroopa and destroyed the wrestlers. Since Krishna went as messenger or Thoothu in Tamil,  for Pandavas, moolavar is called as Pandava Thootha Perumal. Sri Pandava Thootha Perumal gave the Viswaroopa darshan to Janamejayan and Haritha muni in this temple.

This is a life long worship temple for rohini nakshatra devotees. Also Devotees took angapradakshinam for prayers.

Sri Dakshinamurthy Temple, Govindavadi, Near Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District ( Ranipet District ), Tamil Nadu.

25^th March 2018.

While  we passed through the entrance arch erected by the side of Kanchipuram to Arakkonam Railway line, decided to visit this temple before proceeding to  Govindavadi Konar Temple. Even-though the actual distance between these temples are about 600 to 700 meters only, we have to detour for about 6 to 7 Km to reach Konar temple.

Some of the important features of this temple are…

The Shiva temple is facing east with a Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Rishabam. The other koshta moorthams are Vinayagar Vishnu, Brahma and Durgai. Vibhuti kavadi is being taken as a prayer to Dakshinamurthy by the devotees.

Dakshinamurthy is little large not fitting in the niche,  in a sitting posture on a pedestal supported by koorma or the tortoise. The Pedestal has 8 elephants, 8 lions and 8 ashta dik balakas and 5 snakes/ serpents. Behind Dakshinamurthy there is no kallala ( banyan tree ), instead a mandapam representing Mount Kailash is shown.

In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Varasidhi Vinayagar, Balamurugan, Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Rahu Kethu & Nagars, Chandikeswarar, Kala bhairava, Navagrahas and Sridevi Bhudevi sametha  Govinda Raja Perumal.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS

The mandapam with  Shiva sannadhi was built by Chozhas.  The outer walls are adorned with kumbha panchara reliefs, of various deities, Kings, yazhi, Hanuman, Garudan, etc…. The earliest inscriptions belongs to Rajendra Chozha-I ( 1012-1044 AD) mentions about the donation made  to the Shiva temple of Takkolam, which is about 10 KM from Govindavadi.  A latter period inscription speaks about one Yogananda Theertha swami donated land  for this temple.

LEGENDS

As per the legend while  Lord Vishnu using his discus or chakra in favour of his devotee, it slipped and fell down and lost loosing its power. Prayed Lord Shiva of Tirumalpur with 1000 lotus and got back his discus with full power.

Even-though Dakshinamurthy is situated in one of the koshtam, he is considered as presiding deity aka Guru / Jupiter or Pragaspathi. Hence this temple is called as Guru Sthalam.

The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 20.00 hrs. on Thursdays the temple will be opened between 04.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs with out break.
