Arulmigu Jurahareswarar Temple, Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

This is also one of the lesser known temples of Kanchipuram. This temple is  dedicated to Lord Shiva.

காஞ்சிபுரம், ஏகாம்பரநாதர் சன்னதி தெருவில் இருக்கும் சுரகேஸ்வரர் கோயில், கல்வெட்டுகளில் சுர வட்டாரமுடைய நாயனார் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. சுரம் நீங்க இக்கோயில் இறைவனை வழிபடுவர். இக்கோயில் அமைப்பை போன்று தமிழ் நாட்டில் வேறு எங்கும் காணமுடியாது. பல்வேறு அழகிய சிற்பங்களை உடையது.

Some of the important details are…
The temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram. The sanctum sanctorum is 3 steps below the ground level. Balipeedam and Rishabam mandapam are in front. The entrance to the sanctum is from sides. 

ARCHITECTURE
The sanctum sanctorum consists of sanctum and artha mandapam. The sanctum is of elliptical shape on a padma pedam. The  2 tier brick vimana is also in elliptical shape with three kalasa. Stucco images of various forms Shiva are on the Vimana. The sanctum has the niches, but with out any koshta moorthams.

The architecture of the temple is worth to see. There are three exquisite crafted windows on the sides of sanctum sanctorum. Sanga nidhi and Padmanidhi are at the entrance of artha mandapam. The temple is under the control of ASI ( Archaeological Survey of India ). It was told that the temple was located as per the agama.

HISTORY & INSCRIPTIONS
As per the inscriptions of  Vikrama Chozha, it may be presumed that the temple exists before his rule and built by Chozhas.  The temple is also referred as “Suravattaramudaiya Nayanar”.

LEGENDS
It is believed that fever related ailments will get cured if one worships lord Shiva of this temple.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 11.30 Hrs and 16.30 hrs to 20.30 hrs.
