06th November 2016.
When I stayed in Jaffarkhanpet before Velachery, I tried many times but could not get a dharshan of Sri Prasanna Venkata Narasimha Perumal. This time Perumal gave me dharshan on 6th November 2016.
Iraivan : Sri Prasanna Venkata Narasimha Perumal
Iraivi : Sri Alarmel Mangai Thayar
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram. The Dwajasthambam, Palipedam and Garudalwar sannadhi are after immediately after the Rajagopuram.
In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Sri Alarmel mangai Thayar, Andal, Chakkaraththaalwar ( on the back Yoga Narasimhar), vahana mandapam.
In the sanctum Moolavar Venkatesa Perumal is with Sridevi and Boodevi. There is a Narimhar statue made of Impon under the feet of moolavar. ( as per legend this Narasimhar Vikragam was found while digging a pit for new construction of the Perumal Temple.
Sri Ramar Sannadhi is in the arthamandapam and Anjaneyar is in front. Alwars moortham and cheppu thirumenis are also in the arthamandapam. It was told that originally only Sri Ramar Temple was there. In one of a Devotee’s dream Perumal appeared and asked him to construct a temple for him. Hence the moolavar is called as “Prasanna Venkata Perumal” and latter Narasimhar also added to the name. During excavation Moolavar and Thayar are found in the pit. A group of people may be Chttiyar’s from Cheyyar, near Thiruvannamalai installed the moolavar and Thayar. The temple has large property in Cheyyar and Saidapet area.
It was believed that the temple was constructed about 700 years before during Vijaya Nagara period. But we could find a 19th century ( 20th January 1896) inscription, which speaks about the construction of madapalli.
