The temple is facing east with an entrance arch on the east side. Palipedam and Nandhi are immediately after the entrance in a metacolour sheet shed. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Antarala and mandapam. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dhakshnamurthy, Thirumal, Brahma and Durgai.

The Gurukkal claims that this temple belongs to Chozha period and to prove the same. there is no evidence/ inscription available at the temple. Lord Shiva is responsible for the creation of this City / Nagar Kanchiuram and hence called as Nagreeswarar.
