Sri Nagareeswarar Temple / நகரீஸ்வரர் கோயில், Kanchipuram, Kanchipuram District, Tamil Nadu.

On 24th December 2017, had been to Kanchipuram in connection with a personal works and my Cousin brother’s son took me to three Shiva temples. These temples may not be popular & Heritage temples  of Kanchipuram. This Sri Nagareeswarar temple is on Vallal Pachaiyappan  Stree, Ennaikaran, on the way to Bus stand from Collectorate office.

Some of the important features of this temple are....
The temple is facing east with an entrance arch on the east side. Balipeedam and Rishabam are immediately after the entrance in a meta colour sheet shed. The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, Antarala and mandapam. In koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Thirumal, Brahma and Durgai.

In the prakaram sannadhi for Anjaneyar, Vallabha Ganapati, Valli Devasena Arumugar, Chandikeswarar, Kala bhairava, Mahavishnu and Suryan.

HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
The Gurukkal claims that this  temple belongs to Chozha period and  to prove the same, there is no evidence in the form of inscriptions available at the temple. But the koshta murtis belongs to Chozha Period. The temple was built with brick and seems to be latter period construction. A Two tier Nagara Vimanam is on the sanctum sanctorum. 

LEGEND
As per the legend Moolavar was installed by Indran and this is a pava ( sin ) vimochana sthalam. Lord Shiva is responsible for the creation of this City / Nagar Kanchipuram and hence called as Nagareeswarar.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will be kept opened between 07.00 hrs to 11.00 hrs and 17.30 hrs to 20.30 Hrs

HOW TO REACH:
Just 2 KM from Kanchipuram bus terminus and on the way to Bus Terminus to Collectorate office.
