The list of Shiva temples in and around Kanchipuram with link to Google Photos, Location link on Google Map and Location QR Code are posted already in this blog.   The visit to this Sri Parasareswarar and Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar Temples  on Gandhi Road, Adisan Pettai, Kanchipuram, was a part of 2020 Maha Shivaratri Temples Visit, on 21^st February 2020.

This temple is popularly known as Vazhakarutheeswarar Temple and Sri Parasareswarar is in a sannadhi in parallel with Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar.

PARASARESWARAR TEMPLE

This sannadhi is parallel with Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar Sannadhi facing East. This was once an ancient temple, which lost it’s popularity, after Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar gains his popularity through poojas and pariharams.  The 18^th Century Sri Sivagnana Swamigal had written the sthala purana of this temple in Kanchi puranam.

764   தருமம்பிற ழாத சத்ததா னத்தின்

      பெருமையுரை செய்தாம் சத்திபெறு மைந்தன்

      தருதந்தையர்க் கொன்ற வரக்கர்தம தாவி

      பருகவழி பட்ட பராசரஞ் சொல்வாம்  

765   விசுவாமித்திரன் சூழ்ச்சி

      மத்தப்புலன் வென்ற வசிட்டன் தரவந்தார்

      பத்தையிரு மக்கள் பதுமத்தவன் ஒப்பார்

      சத்திமுத லானோர் தகவாலிவர் வாழ்நாள்

      சுத்தநெறி தேர்விச் சுவாமித்திரன் என்போன்

770   பராசரர் பிறத்தல்

      கொன்னும்வசிட் டன்தன் குலமைந்தரின் மூத்தோன்

      மன்னுந்தவச் சத்தி யென்பான்மனை யாட்டி

      அன்னசெயல் கேளா வரற்றிக்கருப் பத்தால்

      துன்னும்வயி றெற்றிப் புரளுந்துயர் கண்டான் ௭  

783   பராசரன் சிவபூசை செய்தல்

      கம்பைநீ ராடியே கம்ப நாயகர்

      தம்பனி மலர்ப்பதந் தாழ்ந்து மஞ்சணீர்

      வம்பவிழ் கரைமிசை மணிகண் டேச்சர

      நம்பர்தம் வடகுட ஞாங்கர் நண்ணினான்  

788   பராசரர் வரம் பெறல்

      மைந்தநின் பூசையில் தம்பி மாரொடு

      நுந்தைமற் றெமையடைந் துற்று நோன்மைசால்

      அந்தண னாமுனைக் காணும் ஆசையின்

      முந்துற நின்றவா காண்டி மொய்ம்பினோய்  

789   அரக்கரைக் கொலைசெயும் வேள்வி யாற்றியந்

      நெருப்பினி லவர்தமை நீறு செய்தியிவ்

      வரைப்பினி லென்றுநாம் மகிழ்ந்து வாழ்துமென்

      றுரைத்தனன் மறைந்தனன் வேதத் துச்சியில்  

790   பராபரன் திருவருள் பெற்றுப் பாய்புகழ்ப்

      பராசர நெடுந்தகை பணைத்த வேள்வியில்

      பராய்மனத் தரக்கரை நீற்றிப் பாற்றினான்

      பராயசீர் உறுவர்தம் பகர்ச்சி யாற்கதம்

பராய்- ஒருவகை மரம். இதன் முருட்டினை வன்மைக்கு

எடுத்துக் காட்டுவர் "வன்பராய் முருடொக்கும் என்சிந்தை"

(திருவா.செத் ௪). பகர்ச்சி- சொல். கதம்-சினம்  

791   விரிபுனல் படிந்தொர் பருகினோர் தீண்டப் பெற்றுளோர்

            தமக்கும்வீ டளிக்கும்

      முரிதிரை முகட்டு வராலினம் உகளும்

            முழங்கொலி மஞ்சணீ ராற்றங்

      கரைமிசைத் தகைசால் முனிவரர் வழுத்துங்

            கண்ணுதல் வளாகங்கள் இன்னும்

      உரைசெயப் புக்கால் உலப்புறா காண்மின்

            உயர்நிலைப் பெருந்தவ முனிவீர்

Moolavar: Sri Parasareswarar

Some of the important features of this temple are....

This temple is facing east with a 3 tier Rajagopuram on the north side ( a special is the stucco image of Mahasadhasiva murthy  with 25 heads and 50 Hands ). A Temple tank is in-front.

This Sri Parasareswarar Sannadhi is in parallel with the Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar Sannadhi and Somaskandar. The original temple might have been built during 8^th to 9^th Century Pallava period.

LEGEND & STHALA PURANA

Parasarar was born to Vashishtha’s first son Sathy. He came to know through his mother that his father was killed by a demon called Sudharan. Decided to kill the demon.  He learnt from his grand father Vashishtha maharishi that worshiping Lord Shiva at Kanchipuram will fulfill his wishes. Parasarar came to Kanchipuram, took bath in Kamba river and installed Shiva Linga on the banks of River Manchalneer on west side of Sri Manikandeeswarar Temple. Pleased by the devotion  of Parasarar, Lord Shiva appeared and blessed him. With the blessings of Lord Shiva, Parasarar performed a velvi / Yaga and killed the Demon Sudharan. Hence after Lord Shiva of this temple is called as Parasareswarar Temple.    

SRI VAZHAKARUTHEESWARAR TEMPLE.

This Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar Temple in Kanchipuram, has become poplar in recent years due fulfilling the desires, especially in Court cases of his devotees, This temple was not mentioned in any of the old Sthala purana or in books.  

Moolavar: Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar (வழக்கறுத்தீஸ்வரர்  )

Some of the important details are....

The north side 3 tier Rajagopuram is common for Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar and Sri Parasareswarar Temples, in fact Sri Parasareswarar is in a small sannadhi inside Sri Vazhakarutheeswarar Temple. Dwajasthambam, balipeedam and Nandhi are immediately after the Rajagopuram. Moolavar is of 16 flat surfaced Dhara Linga and about 4 feet below the ground level. Moolavar, Somaskandar and Parasareswarar are in a line. In koshtam Dakshinamurthy, Mahavishnu, Brahma and Durgai.

In the outer prakaram sannadhi for Vinayagar, Valli Devasena Subramaniar, Thirumurai, Chandikeswarar, Kala bhairava, Suryan, Chandran and Navagrahas.

The sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum and Artha mandapam. An ekathala vesara vimana is on the sanctum sanctorum. It was told that the temple is about 1000 years old and there is no evidence to prove the same.

LEGEND:

As per the legend, there was a dispute between Devas and Sages on Veda. Both went to Lord Shiva and worshiped him to get the solution. Lord Shiva Shiva solved the dispute. Hence, It is believed that  Lord Shiva of this temple  will relieve us from any Court cases and legal disputes. 

In recent years, the ViPs and ViPs turned to Politicians, who are facing criminal and civil cases comes to this temple and worship Lord Shiva of this temple. People with problems of loan, child boon, obstacle in marriage, loss in business, etc., used to worship Lord Shiva of this temple to get solution.  The Problem written in a paper will be kept under Shiva’s feet and prayed for 16 Mondays after doing the Rudra Homa. Special poojas with annadhanam will be carried out after the wish was fulfilled.

Apart from regular poojas special poojas are conducted on Mondays, Aani Utchavam, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Navaratri, Vijayadasami, Margazhi Utsavam, Aruthra Darshan, Panguni Uthiram, Pradosham, Mahashivaratri, etc.
