Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple / ஸ்ரீ லக்ஷ்மி நரசிம்ம சுவாமி கோவில், Tindivanam, Villupuram District, Tamil Nadu.

Even-though we couldn’t have the darshan on the way to Ennayiram, we had the same in the evening  on return to Chennai after completing our,  Ennayiram- Esalam Heritage Visit. While others are taking rest in the van due to tired, we three alone went to the Temple.

Thayar    : Sri Kanakavalli Thayar

Some of the important features of this temple are...
The temple is facing east with a 5 tier Rajagopuram with beautiful reliefs on the walls. The Rajagopuram don’t have much stucco images  except dwarapalakas. The temple is about 3 feet below the ground level. Dwajasthambam, balipedam and Garudalwar are immediately after the Rajagopuram. 

In sanctum thayar Mahalakshmi is sitting on the left lap of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, while the right hand holds Narasimhar and left hand holds a lotus. In Urchava murti Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, Mahalakshmi is sitting on left lap and hands are in anjali hastha / worshiping posture.
  
Sannadhi for Chakrathalwar/ Yoga Narasimhar, Lakshmi Hayagriva, Vishnu Durga, Venugopala Swamy with Rukmani & Sathyamabama, Rama with Seetha & Lakshmana are in the mukha and maha mandapam. Sannadhi for Kanakavalli Thayar, Andal are in the outer prakaram. Yoga Hanuman in this temple is holding Conch and Chakra. The legend of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy is associated with Hiranyakashipu and Bhaktha Prakalath. The place was once a tintili vana ( Tamarind vanam in Tamil ) in Sanskrit and the Tindivanam is the corrupt word of Tintilivanam.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, artha mandapam and a mukha mandapam. The adhistanam is of simple pada bandha adhistanam with 3 patta kumudam. A nagara vimanam is above the sanctum. The floor level outside the sanctum is also higher than the athistanam and formed like a moat.



HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
It was told that the temple was built by the Pallava Kings during 5th Century with latter Vijayanagara’s contributions.  The 1512 CE Krishnadevaraya’s inscription speaks about donation of Land. The other Vijayanagar period inscriptions belongs to Achyutaraya and Sadha Sivaraya.  1632 CE Marathi inscriptions are also found.

The temple will be kept opened between 07.30 hrs to 12.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs to 21.00 hrs.

The temple is about 2 KM from Tindivanam Bus stand.
Buses are available from various parts of Tamil Nadu and all the buses to Chennai from Southern Districts pass through Tindivanam.
About 3 KM from Tindivanam Railway station.

  1. This temple thayar is great and very much effective to to release us from our sins all the prarthanai will be completed once we pray to the thayar. All the near by village people's are coming and making their prayers which is always sucessful
