Sri Seedevi Amman Temple / சீதேவி அம்மன் திருக்கோயில், காஞ்சிக்கோயில் / Kanjikoil near Erode, Erode District, Tamil Nadu.

It was a long wish to Visit the old temples of Sri Sedevi Amman temple, Sri Neelakandeswarar Temple, and Sri Karivaradharaja Perumal temple. of Kanjikoil, which  is near my native place. During this month’s visit, many natives visited all three temples. As per the inscriptions this place Kanjikovil was called “Kanjikooval”. Literature mentions this place as “Kanji Nagar”, “KanjiNallur”, “Thalainja Nallur” and “Kunguma Nallur”. 

இலக்கியங்கள்  இல்லறம் வளர்த்துதவு மல்கு காஞ்சிகோயில்” மற்றும் “கன்னி பங்காளர் திருநீலகண்டேசுவரர் கவரியுமை கருணையதனால் சிறக்கும் காஞ்சி நகர்” என்று சிறப்பித்து கூறுகின்றன.

Vishnu’s consort Sridevi is called ”Thirumagal” and the Amman is also called Sedevi Amman in the same name. There is no such temple that bears this name as a specialty of this temple Amman.


This temple Amman Sedevi is a Kuladeivam for Vellala Gounder Sub sects of Chemban Kulam, Mulasi Kannar Kulam, and Kongu Vellalar. The trustees of the temple follow the instructions of their kula Guru Sivagiri Madam Siva Samaya Pandithar. The Kongu Vellalars used to get permission before stating anything from Amman called “pookettal”. This temple was originally at Pethampalayam shifted to Karukkampalayam, then to Elayampalayam, then to Chettipalayam, and Finally to this place after constructing a new Temple.

The salient features of this temple are…
The temple faces north with a 5-tier Rajagopuram. A 60 feet long Kundam, Garudathoon or Deepa Sthambam and a mandapa are in front of Rajagopuram. Simha Vahanam, Dwajasthambam, and balipeedam are immediately after the Rajagopuram in the open mukha mandapa. On the right and left of the front mandapa are 3 stucco horses donated by the devotees.

In the outer prakaram sannadhi  for Kuppannaswamy, Veeramathi Amman, Arulmigu Kandi Periyar Swamy, Sri Karichi Appichi, Sri Vedanarayanan Chinnari. And in a Small sannadhi for - Vedanarayanan Sinnaari, Veeramathi Amman, Pachiyaththal, Makali Amman. Pulikuthi Veeran, Saptha kannis, Karuppannan Swamy.

ARCHITECTURE
The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala, and artha mandapam. The Ardha Mandapam may have been built during the Vijayanagara period. The sanctum is on a padma bandha adistanam and a 3-tier vimana is on the sanctum. Amman is in a sitting posture.


POOJAS AND CELEBRATIONS 
one time / Oru kala pooja is conducted and two times pooja  in Margazhi. A 15-day Annual festival will be celebrated during the month of Aani with Pongal, Thimithi, etc,.

TEMPLE TIMINGS:
The temple will be kept open between 06.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs and there is no lunch break.

About 8 KM from Kavindapadi and 10 KM from Perundurai.
Buses are available from Gobichettipalayam, Kavindapadi, Perundurai and Erode.
