While
I was searching the inscriptions for the
Chozha period Sri Manikandeswarar Shiva Temple of Padur, I was told that there
were about six inscriptions belonging to the Nandhivarman (754 CE) Pallava period recorded from a Perumal Temple. So thought of visiting that Pallava period Perumal
Temple. Since I couldn’t locate that
temple, the Locals guided me to this temple and I interacted with the Archakar.
He said there is no old Perumal Temple at Padur, instead the Perumal at Sri
Manikandeswarar is the oldest. Hope the
inscriptions recorded might belong to this Perumal Sannadhi.
HISTORY & INSCRIPTION
This Sri Bhama Rukmini Sametha Krishna temple is about 150 years old. Originally the temple was a Bajanai madam, people used to do Bhajans and worship a Bhama Rukmini & Krishna Photo. Later a temple was built and Bhama Rukmani.
During the Chozha period the place Padur was called Paduvur. In inscriptions, it was
mentioned as Thondai Mandalam / Nadu, Jayakonda Chozha mandalathu Aamur Kottathu, Paduvur Nattu Paduvur. Again
Paduvur was also called Anavaratha Sundara Nallur.
