While
I was searching the inscriptions for the
Chozha period Sri Manikandeswarar Shiva Temple of Padur, I was told that there
were about six inscriptions belonging to the Nandhivarman (754 CE) Pallava period recorded from a Perumal Temple. So, we thought of visiting that Pallava period Perumal
Temple. Since I couldn’t locate that
temple, the Locals guided me to this temple, and I interacted with the Archakar.
He said there is no old Perumal Temple at Padur; instead, the Perumal at Sri
Manikandeswarar is the oldest. Hope the
inscriptions recorded might belong to this Perumal Sannadhi.
HISTORY & INSCRIPTION
This Sri Bhama Rukmini Sametha Krishna temple is about 150 years old. Originally, the temple was a Bajanai madam; people used to do Bhajans and worship a Bhama Rukmini & Krishna Photo. Later, a temple was built, and Bhama Rukmani.
During the Chozha period the place Padur was called Paduvur. In inscriptions, it was
mentioned as Thondai Mandalam / Nadu, Jayakonda Chozha mandalathu Aamur Kottathu, Paduvur Nattu Paduvur. Again, Paduvur was also called Anavaratha Sundara Nallur.
