HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS
As per the inscriptions the place was mentioned as Rajaraja Valanattu Thirumunaipadi Thiruvennainallur Nattu Thiruvennainallur. The temple exists before the 10th Century. The inscriptions belong to the period of Rajaraja-I, Kulothunga Chozha, Rajaraja-II, Koperunsingan, Thiruchitrambalam Udayan Sundara Pandya Brahmarayan, and Kadavarayan. The inscriptions mainly speak about donations of land money, towards conducting regular poojas and burning of perpetual lamps.

Rajaraja-II's (1146 - 62 CE) 12th reign year inscription records the endowment of Thiruvaykulathu Alwar and consorts / Piratimars ( Ugantharula Panniyathu ) poojas and offerings. For which 20 ma land was gifted to this temple after exempting the taxes as thiruvidaiyattam. Koperunjingan had made arrangements to remove this inscription and install it back after the renovation of Vimanam ( SII X11 - 170 ).

The temple is under the control of Ahobila Mutt. The Rajagopuram was renovated and Maha Samprokshanam was performed in 1996.
