This
Visit to this 12th to 13th Century Sri Mulasthaneshwara Temple on 22nd
June 2019 was a part of ancient Shiva and Vishnu temples of Karnataka. After
Hale Alur Sri Arkeshwara Temple’s visit we had been to this temple. The temple
is under renovation.

Some
of the salient features of this temple are…
The
temple is about 4 to 5 feet below the ground level with steps to climb down. Facing
east with a stucco Nandhi arch ( under construction ) on the south side.
Palipedam and nandi are on the east side in front of the open muka mandapa The
sanctum sanctorum consists of Sanctum, antarala, arthamandapa and mukamandapa. Entrance
to the sanctum sanctorum is from south with a porch ( supported by two
pillars ) on a raised platform.
ARCHITECTURE
The
sanctum is with simple padma bandha adhisthana. An ekathala vimana over the
Sanctum. The bitti or the walls are supported by pilasters with out any koshta.
The prastaram is with kabotham. The Vimana is under construction. Chandikeswarar is in a separate reconstructed sannadhi facing west. A new sannadhi ( may be
for Virabhadra ) is under construction facing north. Nagars
are under a tree.
HISTORY:
It
was told that the temple was constructed during Chozha period, may be during 12th
to 13th century. Inscriptions are not found to prove the same.

The
temple opening time is unpredictable.

The
temple is 20 KM from Gundlupet, 30 KM from Chamarajanagar and 210 KM from
Bengaluru / Bangalore.
