The original temple might have been built along with the Sri Thirupurantakeswarar Shiva Temple of the same Village during Kulothunga Chozha -III's period. ( One of the Choza period Pillar is found on the wall ). The temple was built with stone and reconstructed with bricks at a latter stage. Some of the 15th to 16th Century stones with inscriptions are found in the antarala ardha mandapam floors.  Which indicates that the original temple was built stone and the temple belongs to Vijayanagara period.
