The
Visit to this Sri Abhaya Saranagatha Ratchaga Eswarar Temple at
Rattinamangalam, close to Arani was a part of the Gajaprishta Vimana Temples Visit
in Thiruvannamalai and Ranipet Districts. Since Arani is famous for the weaving
of Silk sarees, the Rattinam plays the main role in weaving. Hence this place might
have obtained the name of Rattinamangalam. Thanks to Mr. Vijayan sir, for taking
me to these temples in and around Arani.

of the salient features of this temple are...
The

balipeedam, and Rishabam are on the east side of the temple. Vinayagar, Sri Valli
Devasena Arumugam and Ambal Sukumara Janani are in the ardha mandapam. Moolavar
is of 16 surfaces Dhara Lingam ( Shodasa Lingam ) on a round avudayar. In
Koshtam Vinayagar, Dakshinamurthy, Lingothbavar, Brahma and Durgai.

ARCHITECTURE
The
temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, antarala and ardha mandapam. The sanctum
sanctorum is of Gajaprishta style on a pada bandha adhistanam with three patta
Kumudam. The adhistanam is constructed with stone and Bhitti and Vimanam are
constructed with bricks. The prastaram valapi, the madhalai is shown. The
Vimanam above the prastaram is not a Gajaprishtam, but an ordinary eka tala Vesara
sigara Vimanam with a kalasam was constructed.
HISTORY AND
INSCRIPTIONS
Considering
the Moolavar Dharalingam and Gajaprishta vimanam, the temple may have been constructed
during the 8th to 9th Century Pallava period, and the same
received contributions from Chozhas and Vijayanagaras. Since a multilayer painting is found on the
adhistanam, do not know, whether there is any inscription or not.
